I haven’t gotten his book yet though i will buy it. When he discussed stats/testing/etc on his site he is very good. He seems to really know his stuff and explains it well. Leaving aside his commenting/ internet style which was mostly driven by substance abuse and mental illness it seems, he is really worthwhile. He has a lot worth explaining about some commonly, and poorly, understand topics.
On another note the good ol OT has alums with published books and NYT/WaPo columnists. Meanwhile i had a banner day on the intertoobz yesterday where i got two likes on twitter comments AND two upvotes on some advice i gave on xc ski racing on Reddit. So ….huzzah i guess. But i’m not in jail so i got that going for me.Report
The weird irony of Freddie for me is that I wouldn’t be here if not for him. In the aftermath of the election of 2016 I was desperately trying to find anyone out there who spoke truth and sense and I stumbled onto his blog. I thought “I could do that” and started my own blog and joined Twitter, whereupon Will told me about OT. It was only after I had been here for an entire year that I learned Freddie had written here too and I was like “whoa, dude” in my best Keanu voice.Report
Dear ol’ Freddie, I will have to buy his book. I hope it does well and he is doing ok too. He was fiery, uncompromising and often unfair but holy Hannah could he write!Report
Freddie’s “Planet of Cops” is the only Great Awokening take you need. That said, this is his area of expertise and it appears that focusing on this instead appears to be much healthier for him.Report
Yeah, he could have been very helpful in confronting that phenomena but his health simply has to come first.Report
I miss that dude, glad he’s found (hopefully) a healthier outlet for him for writing and debate. The guy is intellectually honest in a way too few are.Report
I have a lot of respect for Freddie and wish him the best of luck. I really do hope this helps him advance his career.Report
Publish or Perish has been kicked down the road for… 2 years? 3 years?Report
The problem I always had with Freddie was that I would go looking for his blog, as he came at issues with an interesting and well thought out perspective, and half the time it would be gone. Erased in its entirety.
It is good to see him with a book out. It might be a better format for him.Report
He could never get over the fact that the people he was hoping to convince said “the things you’re saying look like the things that conservatives say, therefore they’re bullshit, and you’re bullshit too”.Report
