I Don’t Wanna Get Out Of Bed – Daphne Diaphanous

I actually can’t provide much information about the artist, who doesn’t appear to have done much else, at least under this name. I’m not even 100% sure that’s her picture there.

I originally got this track in 1998 on a Chunklet issue 14 compilation CD, called It’s Only Four Dollars Every Five Minutes; lost the CD at some point, spent several years occasionally trying to track this song back down via download or a reasonably-priced copy of the CD (the magazines are now collector’s items, and pricey, so re-buying the whole thing for one song was out. Besides: thrill of the hunt.)

Finally scored the CD on Discogs a couple months ago; of course, it’s NOW available for download on Chunklet‘s Bandcamp site. Ain’t that the way of it.

It’s lo-fi, even demo-quality, but that doesn’t bother me. Over a rudimentary drum machine and Casio new wave keyboards, high bass, some toms, and supremely fuzzed-out guitar, Ms. Diaphanous (I assume) vamps and coos delightedly about new love and lust, like the Go-Go’s gone GbV.

Great little tune that, in my experience, sounds best played on a boombox in your bathroom, as you get ready to go out.
