Weekend!
So, last night, Maribou said something like the following to me “you’re sick, you have to eat *SOMETHING*… come on, we’ll make it a cheat day. What do you want?”
“I don’t want anything.”
“We won’t make it a cheat day. We’ll make it a day out of time. A special dispensation day that has nothing to do with any other regularly scheduled cheat days. I’ll order it, I’ll go pick it up, whatever. What do you want?”
“I don’t want anything.”
I went on to have a bowl of plain yogurt with a handful of berries. (A few hours later, we agreed that a pizza would probably be better than not having anything at all. So she ordered one of my favorite pizzas for me.)
But, dang, this whatever it is that is going around is NO JOKE. It makes you not want to eat.
So, this weekend will be spent convalescing from it. I’ll probably also hit Costco.
OH NO IT’S MOTHER’S DAY I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING FOR MOTHER’S DAY
So while at Costco, I’ll have to pick something up for Mother’s Day because we’re doing something with the family for Mother’s Day. I also need to pick up various things for my sister (also a mother) and her husband’s mom (also a mother) because they’re all going to be there at the family thing.
While Maribou is a good kitty mommy, I’m thinking we can put her Mother’s Day Celebration somewhere around next Sunday.
So… what’s on your docket?

Came down with a cold, so plans are mainly just staying around home recuperating. Might go out one day to see if the tulips are in bloom yet down at the park.
Went to see Captain America: Civil War last night. It’s very good; better than The Avengers, toss-up as to whether it’s better than Winter Soldier. Really pulls at the heartstrings. Interested in hearing your thoughts on it once you’ve seen it.Report
Ah, jeez. I still haven’t seen Winter Soldier or Avengers 2.
I’ve been meaning to…Report
Winter Soldier is probably Marvel’s best movie; you should definitely watch it. Age of Ultron is skippable.Report
Just saw it tonight. While Civil War is very good,Winter Soldier remains the best Marvel movie. This one–for me–requires a bit of reflection. 🙂 I actually flipped the screen off at one point!Report
It should be noted that I am also sick. Fortunately, rather than not wanting to eat, I just have really specific tastes. Like the only thing I *really* want is toast with butter and jam.
I’m expecting to set stuff up for gardening-on-the-porch on Sunday, we’ll see how that goes.Report
Road trip!!! Going to California to see my father. He’s post hip replacement surgery and allowed to leave the hospital!
I’m taking my 14 year old niece and 6 year old son. I want to make a million road trip stops to going berry picking and see the world’s largest… whatever we may come upon. Adventure!Report
Hopefully you won’t be going to California with an aching in your heart. Sounds like a great trip.Report
Depending on how far south you go you might find cherries ripe for the picking too. ‘Round my parts the berries are visible in all the groves but the groves haven’t opened up for the U-Pik season yet. But I’ve been getting fresh, sweet cherries from farms somewhere near El Centrofor a couple of weeks now. Yum.Report
Oooh. What is the road trip soundtrack of choice?
Or do people not do that sort of thing anymore?Report
I think there is a nice set of choices hereReport
Trying to be a good mama on Mother’s Day, I let my 14 year old niece control the music for the trip. Ugh. 🙁 I should get the mother of the year award. LOLReport
I’m meeting a former colleague very briefly after work for drinks at the new drafthouse that just opened next to Yankee Stadium. He’s going to the Sox/Yanks game and I live just a few train stops north so I told him I’d meet him for a (bunch of) beers. Then I’ve got the boys for the bulk of the weekend. We’re aiming for a trip into Brooklyn to see my college roommate and his wife and daughter, just a few weeks younger than LMA. On Sunday, we’re getting together with Zazzy and then my family to do all sorts of assorted Mother’s Day-type shenanigans.Report
Going down to Santa Cruz on Saturday. Hosting people for dinner tonight.Report
Apropos of nothing in particular, after getting home tonight and spending way too much time watching videos of Cheap Trick in their prime, I was reminded of an experience when my family went to visit one of my mother’s school friends in the LA area – this would be late ’70s – so the friend’s son in his late teens was forced to drag me, about twelve, around so that the adults could talk among themselves.
He was game, and drove me around LA, which I only remember impressionistically, but the one thing I do remember is that he plugged in a bootleg cassette of the punk band The Germs as a soundtrack.
I was 13 when punk faded away, and I was 26 when grunge hit. Yeah, there was Prince (tap, tap, point) in the interim, but – damn…Report
