Weekend!
I admit: I am a huge fan of late December snow. It’s fluffy, it’s pretty, it’s downright magical. It’s nice to sit in a chair and just watch it come down if you’ve got a picture window and even shoveling/sweeping the walk can be a pleasant way to spend the evening if you know you won’t be doing anything the next day. Put on a sweatshirt and a pair of fuzzy pants and it’s hard not to think about how another year has passed and think about how far you’ve come.
Snow in February, by contrast, is bullcrap.
Seriously, we got 6-8 inches last Monday, had one day above 50, then a freezy day, and now it’s snowing again. It’s going to be snowing all weekend.
So I’m planning on spending this weekend hunkered down as much as possible, wrapped up in different layers of clothing, eating warm food, and daydreaming about temperatures in the 50s.
Though I probably will be sent out into it to get ingredients for the aforementioned warm food.
So… what’s on your docket?

Temperatures in the 50s? Brrr!Report
With all due respect and I mean this in the friendliest way possible, but eat my shorts man! I just got done with a run from Seattle to Minneapolis and I woke up in Montana one morning to a temperature of -10F.
I find it difficult to find the words to express just how thoroughly sick of winter I am at this point.Report
I feel you, man. I’m in long-sleeve shirts nearly half of my days off work!
(Of course, come summertime, y’all are going to have luxuries like water, so… Yeah.)Report
Pittsburgh’s been pretty bad.
2% of the pipes in the city burst.Report
Temperatures in the 50s? Brrr!
It’s not so bad. Sometimes when it’s in the 50s we where goose down wraps, head to toe, like mobile insulated tacos, and just get on with our day. Other times when it’s in the 50s we stay inside cuz it’s really effing cold.Report
This is why I’m in favor of global warming and sea level rise. The eastern halves of va,and md will submerge and I’ll finally get some ocean front property. 🙂Report
Smart people are already planning for Boswash to emigrate to other parts of the country.Report
Snow in late February. I know intellectually that there are places in the Northern hemisphere where that doesn’t happen, or at least is unusual enough to remark on. But from direct experience, it’s hard to really believe in. A friend of mine who was born and raised where I live now has seen snow here in every month of the year, over the years.
(I shovelled day before yesterday, and it’s snowing now, so I’ll be shovelling again after work.)Report
In Colorado, we can also see snow in every month of the year. And we usually get sustained winter at *some* point during the winter. So it’s not really unusual, just always a cause for grumbling.
When I want to cheer up I look at the weather where I grew up (and Jaybird grew up in Michigan, so I suspect his outlook is much the same).Report
I hope to get some hot tub maintenance done this weekend (need to replace the flux capacitor).Report
Still dreaming of being John Cusack?Report
I am watching my nephew. With my brother (his dad) so sick, he’s been feeling neglected. So we’re having him over to play video games and give him some attention.
The only problem with my plans is my nephew is not quite six, and really wants to play Minecraft. I’ve never played it (we have it for PS4) so I’m gonna have to help him play it. If he was two or three years older, the self-guided nature of the game would entrance him. At his age, I’m worried it’ll frustrate him.Report
at that age, it’s “building blocks” on the computer.Report
My son’s little brother, who’s six, has been playing minecraft pretty independently since he was 4. Mostly he just builds simple structures and blows them up, but he has fun doing it.Report
It’s been a weird winter all across North America. Everyone else seems to be having a terrible time; meanwhile, southwest BC has barely had winter at all. February’s usually a miserable, windy, rainy, cold month; this year it’s been lovely, and 10ºC a lot fo the time. The cherry trees are now in full bloom; normally, they bloom in April. Normally, the ones in DC, 10 degrees of latitude south of here, bloom in April. This is unprecedented.
So, from everyone up here: keep on drivin’! (And special thanks to Alberta!) If things go on at this rate, we’ll be California within my lifetime. (On the downside, California will be a desert. More so than it is already.)Report
Lee just finished the CA bar so tonight is dinner at Monsieur Benjamin with the family:

Saturday, I have to get up early and take Lee to the airport because he doesn’t know how to fly at sensible hours. I will also be doing my taxes on Saturday.
Sunday is for hiking in Marin and maybe late lunch in Mill Valley.Report
So will Cali be populated with two Degraws?Report
Maybe we will do a switch!Report
California needs a two degraw…Report
I don’t trust it. I think they are planning a coup DeGraw.Report
Always two Degraw there are. No more, no less. A master and the apprentice.Report
Dude! Congrats to all!Report
Congratulations, @leeesq and all other bar examinees!
You’ve allowed nothing that I’ve said to deter you from pursuing your dreams!Report
I don’t think that advice holds for previously admitted lawyers considering Leeesq was admitted to the NY bar in 2006.Report
Two degraws? Meh. I mean i loved that cartoon as a kid, Quick Draw DeGraw…..but he had a side kick, he didn’t need a sporking clone.
Of course ( strokes beard in a thoughtful manner) two degraws could explain the presence of El KaBong.Report
So that would make him Lee Degraw? What if he doesn’t want to be Lee Degraw?
So yeah. That raises an issue. My wife had some interest in sharing recipes and experiences here, but she wants to write under her own actual name, not a cognate of my pseudo. Which pretty much eviscerates even the tissue of pseudonyminity that I presently enjoy. The people I care most about (the Governor’s Judicial Appointments Secretary and his associates) are already clued in since I disclosed that, but still.Report
DeGraw’s sidekick could be Baba Leo.Report
Wait….Lee’s a pilot, too?Report
Last weekend didn’t manage to FEEL like a weekend for whatever reasons, so I’m hoping to enjoy this one. I just started on an anti-pain drug that seems to have a side effect of making me feel very mellow about everything, but not at all fuzzy, so the odds are good.
Work till 10 tonight, tomorrow we may or may not have plans depending on how much the weather delayed the people we might be seeing’s road trip, Sunday is another family birthday celebration.
Otherwise lots of loafing.
Oh, and I think the closet of Doom has good odds of actually being de-doomed by the end of the weekend.Report
Busy weekend. Tomorrow I will rush through laundry as fast as possible. An afternoon birthday party for two of the nephews. Harry Connick Jr concert tomorrow night and if i can convince the wife we’ll jet to a friend’s how to watch the end of the UFC event.
Sunday morning I’ll spend a little time with the family and then off to the airport for my last trip to Connecticut for a few weeks. I have officially spent more nights in East Hartford than any other city except Louisville. I have to say though, the food up there is pretty darn good.Report
Snow here and we have a 2 hour drive ahead to go to a concert 38 Special baby 🙂Report
Well, surgery is past, and I am in recover mode. Today will be the first day I’ve driven in almost 2 weeks. Oh, and it looks like family visiting this weekend.Report
Good to hear you’re doing at least okay. Hope the family visit reduces stress rather than adding to it.Report
Glad to hear it, dude.Report
