People running for the House of Lords need to provide statements as to why they wish to be members of the very August house.

My favorite is “Since last sitting, I have been greatly dismayed by the behaviour of a minority of newer members. These individuals have usurped their new found status for their own cupidity, rather than upholding the values of our honourable institution. Their actions have brought ‘The House’ into disrepute in the eyes of the British Public and the world at large. Should I be successful in this ballot, I would endeavour to help to rectify this shameful situation.”
