Glyph

Glyph is worse than some and better than others. He believes that life is just one damned thing after another, that only pop music can save us now, and that mercy is the mark of a great man (but he's just all right). Nothing he writes here should be taken as an indication that he knows anything about anything.

Are maybe my favorite Luna lines. Though the couplet that first hooked me was in another chorus on the first record—”You know I tried to please you/You’re under anesthesia”

    Nice selections, as always;Report

You know, Penthouse is kind of the consensus classic, but for many years its production left me a little cold. I like it now, but Bewitched is still my favorite, followed maybe by Pup Tent.

I think my favorite lines on Bewitched have to be in “California (All The Way)”, though:

He asked her, “Please stop quoting Rod McKuen in your postcards, can’t understand it anymore
And if you’re gonna read your poetry, you’ll have to leave
I’ll have to show you to the door”

pavement’s first album. it really is quite swell. i never really bothered to dig much because every single person who sang it’s praises was a total weiner.

i’d put harvey milk in that bucket as well.Report

Well, I’m a wiener then, since that one was/is definitely my fav. of theirs (I had to special-order that sucker after reading about it when it came out, since my local shop didn’t have it). But Crooked Rain is good too, and there are some good tunes on Brighten the Corners. Wowee Zoweee never clicked for me, but the people who champion it really love it.

Took Slanted & Enchanted back to my dorm room when it came in, and played it over and over, trying to unlock it (thought it sounded a little like SY, who I was familiar with; but at the time, I had never listened to The Fall, so parts of it sounded like nothing I’d ever heard).

Holy cow, wish I woulda known about this earlier:

Not sure what’s the weirdest part; is it that

A.) Luna were on the “John McEnroe Show”, or
B.) There WAS a “John McEnroe Show”, or
C.) John McEnroe is jamming on “Sweet Jane” with the band at the end?Report
