Saturday Morning Gaming: Returning to Madness

Jaybird

Jaybird is Birdmojo on Xbox Live and Jaybirdmojo on Playstation's network. He's been playing consoles since the Atari 2600 and it was Zork that taught him how to touch-type. If you've got a song for Wednesday, a commercial for Saturday, a recommendation for Tuesday, an essay for Monday, or, heck, just a handful a questions, fire off an email to AskJaybird-at-gmail.com

A new Expansion is out for Stellaris in a couple of days, so I will be picking that up. It’s all about archeology, so that should be fun.Report

City of Heroes. Until NCSoft shuts it down. It’s got a surprising number of players.Report

Why did they shut City of Heroes down, anyway?

The only reason that makes sense to me was that it was too much trouble to hit people for infringing on Marvel or DC’s IP. It can’t be because it wasn’t pulling in enough money from microtransactions otherwise.Report

Yeah. The freemium model was bringing in more than enough to support the servers, but not the servers, a small dev team, and the mod team to knock down infringing characters. Just not worth the investment anymore would be my guess.

Plus it was an older game — those were resources that could be put into other, newer investments.Report

Football Manager 2019. As manager of Weston Super-Mare FC, it is my goal–nay, my DESTINY–to bring the Seagulls from the depths of the National League South all the way to the pinnacle of the Premier League, and maybe capture some cups along the way.

But whew! For a silly little soccer simulator this game descends into ridiculous depths of detail. Right now I’m content to let the board and my assistant coaches handle things while I figure the game out.Report

Cultist Simulator is one of a relatively small number of games I gave up because it was too addictive. I’d sit down and start playing it and the next thing I knew it was 3 AM on a weeknight.

So no, I will not be downloading the intriguing-sounding expansions for that game, I fear.Report
