Call Your Mother
It’s Mother’s Day – have you called your mom today?
I bet Debby Harry’s kids remembered.
Blondie – “Call Me”
Here are some songs to help remind you. If you want. Maybe you’re just not that committal.
“Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen
Don’t call her too early though. Dad’s probably sleeping in and you know how he gets.
“Wake Up Call” – Maroon 5
Don’t be drunk dialing her late either. Your poor, longsuffering mother.
“Call Me When You’re Sober” – Evanescence
Do you kiss your mother with that video, Billy Joel?
“Sometimes a Fantasy”
Sometimes you need a little help from a 3rd party in making that connection.
Jim Croce – “Operator”
If that operator-themed song wasn’t sad enough to make you cry for your Mama, try this one.
“Memphis” – Johnny Rivers
Wahhh! I need a trashy all–girl road trip to cheer me up.
Lady Gaga Ft. Beyonce – “Telephone”
Maybe if he wouldn’tve spent all his money on tats Adam wouldn’t have to call collect.
Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa – “Payphone”
It’s hard to be away from someone you love, especially when there’s an ocean between you.
“Tiger Phone Card” – Dengue Fever
Telephone lines are mostly obsolete nowadays, kinda like ELO.
Electric Light Orchestra – “Telephone Line”
Hope your mom’s not available at this number.
Tommy Tutone “867-5309” Jenny
When ya need a little lovin’, call your mother! She’s chock full of the stuff.
“634-5789” – Wilson Pickett

Maybe your mom grew up with a phone number more like this.
“Pennsylvania 6-5000” – Glenn Miller
I have a sneaking suspicion that Steely Dan never calls his mother.
He wants to keep the lines clear…just in case.
Steely Dan – “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”
Confession – I don’t really like talking on the phone. I never know what to say. Maybe “Hello” by Lionel Richie will give me some ideas.

Todd Rundgren also has some opinions on the subject in “Hello It’s Me”.
The Beatles sing about the world’s shortest phone phone call – “Hello, Goodbye”.
I really really really hate this song, but everyone’s grandmother loves it.
Call her too, if you can. Wish I could.
“I Just Called To Say I Love You” – Stevie Wonder
One thing a mom always likes to hear is that you miss her.
Klymaxx – “I Miss You”
Maybe don’t say it quite like this though. The meaning is open for interpretation.
“Missing You” John Waite
There’s always that moment in every phone call – even with people you love – where you realize you’d rather chew off your own arm than to stay on the phone any longer.
The Tubes – “Talk To Ya Later”
This is a truly a combover only a mother could love.
“Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye”
My mother has a habit where when you’re trying to drive away from her house, she comes outside and waves “Bye, Bye, Bye” until you are out of sight. Even if this takes 10 minutes. NSYNC apparently has the same problem.
When our moms get older and retire, we worry that they’ll be lonely. But a lot of us find our moms are busier – and happier – than ever with friends and activities.
And then when we call we find as Cake did that they’re “Never There”.
