Before Borat, there was Andy Kaufman. He pioneered “punked” humor. In so doing he created the Tony Clifton character. That character lives on with the legendary Bob Zmuda, Kaufman’s sort of hidden partner in crime who sometimes played the “Tony Clifton” character when Kaufman was alive (leaving folks to wonder whether Clifton really was Kaufman).
