One Cover Wonder?
Check out this video by Erik Grönwall Swedish Idol 2009 of Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills.” The singer is here presented a young cute twink. But when he opens his mouth he sings this song like he has bigger balls than Bruce Dickinson.
So I searched around the Internet to see what EG has done since then and was somewhat disappointed. He has as far as I can tell done an album of cover tunes, the studio recordings of which are not nearly as inspiring as the live Iron Maiden cover which is featured above.
It’s not easy to write or feature newly written tunes. But if one is to do classic cover tunes, then do it well, as the singer did with the Iron Maiden cover (and nothing else from which I’ve heard from him, in my opinion).
When I listen to every other song Erik Grönwall did other than his live cover of Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills” I ask, what happened to his balls? Given the amazing cover, he doesn’t need to learn how to sing with balls. But perhaps some older, more experienced folks need to “coach” him to make sure he holds onto them. Folks like, for instance, Glenn Hughes (whom you may know) or Dave Walker (whom you probably don’t).
Well, he can’t sing, and his “rock moves” are cheesy as hell. I don’t hear/see why you thought this original cover was special in any way.Report
Do you think Bruce Dickinson can “sing”?Report
