Riff Raff!
Inspired by Glyph’s country post last week, I’ve been listening to a lot of Hurray for the Riff Raff. Granted, they straddle a line between folk and country, but the song above, “The Body Electric,” made a whole bunch of Best Country Songs of 2014 lists, so…
I admit that I don’t really care whether they’re country or folk. For one, they sound like a lot of the 40s music that my dad listened to when I was a kid that I always thought of as country. I suppose today it’d be called roots music, but I still think of it as country. More than that, though, Alynda Lee Segarra has exactly the sort of voice I find absolutely irresistible, and I’d probably listen to her sing her grocery list.
Finally, the now obligatory KEXP performance:
my wife is a big fan of theirs so i’ll pass along the kexp link.Report
I really liked “Look Out Mama” when you linked it last week, I need to check these others out. I have to say, I never would have clicked on a band with this name on my own though. All the good bandnames are taken…Report
Oh yeah, that’s why so many bands now have names with letters missing or v’s instead of u’s: if all the names are taken, just use the same names but spell ’em differently.
Hope you like them, though.Report
We always refer to ‘Chverches’ around here.Report
