Messing around a little more for fleeing the scene and unarmed:
White guys: 2 killed
Black guys: 6 killed
This looks like there may be an issue, but this does not take into account the number of times these males fled and were not killed. If it was equal, then this is a problem. If black guys fled 3 times or more than the white guys in 2017, then there may be a problem, but it may be about the larger numbers of fleeing black guys or about the larger number of stops police make on them, than the shooting itself.
It is easy to point to bad cases like the ones in the article and say there is a problem (and there is for the specific cop involved), but to say there is an over all problem in the police, it will then depend more on the percentages of these killing compared to the cases were the cops did not shoot to see if there is a higher likelihood of police shooting black guys over white guys.
I was playing around with the Washington Post's Fatal Force web page on Police shootings (and killing). While it does not go into specifics on the case and if there was other circumstances, it is interesting to play around with.
"I’ve been told by a lot of people that the right and the GOP kind of lost their minds when Clinton won. He wasn’t supposed to win. Reagan had ushered in a new era and suddenly here was Clinton completely sidelining the program."
And now we are seeing the other side coin with the Democrats losing their minds when Trump won and sidelining President Obama's program.
"Only a slim majority of Republicans actually want abortion to be banned, and most of them for contraception to be freely available. We see this in poll after poll, including just this morning."
This goes to the squeaky wheel getting the grease.
Pro-Choice/Pro-Life, condoms and whatnot. These are minor issues to me and are not things I will complain one way or the other on. For that minority, this is a BIG deal. They make a loud fuss and it is noticed by the pols. Just like that loud, complaining person at work seems to be appeased by the boss more often.
As someone on the other side, what the owner did is within her rights.
I think it was a bad move to upset potentially 50% of those that frequent her establishment, but that is her choice to make. We shall see if and uptick of support from the left leaning customers out weighs the drop off of support from the right leaning customers.
As one that held his nose and voted for Trump, I have been pleasantly surprised by how good his Presidency has been. It could be I have gotten used to the smell, but I have learned that for me to deal with Trump, his actions speak louder than his words.
Trump is not a politician , and likes being a Twitter troll and I have learned not to care about Today's Terrible Trump Twitter Tirade and look for any actions. Trump boast he can ignore subpoenas, but has he? No. Trump boasts he can pardon himself, but has he? No. Wait for the actions, not the trolling.
As for the actions those, have been quite good from my perspective, tax cuts, deregulation, support of Israel, getting North Korea to the table, etc. Most has been good, though I do disagree on some. That is not a surprise. Nobody aligns perfectly.
So, thinking the the GOP will somehow come their senses to impeach.... never going to happen.
Heck, the daily crying wolf by the opposition party (Dems and the media) makes me ignore it all. At this point, there would need to be a video and a dozen plus witnesses showing Trump walking up to someone, pulling a gun, shooting him, and waving the gun laughing maniacally before I would pay attention to another "scandal/ constitutional crisis" of the day against Trump.
I chuckle when I see this stuff. It is the pot calling the kettle black.
Liberals do the same whining, just in different areas.
- wealth inequality
- opportunity inequality
- talk show inequality
- NRA influence
- police bias
- President bais
- sexual preference bais
- global warming
- Russian meddling
- Russian collusion
and the list can go on. We all have things that we feel are very important and get frustrated when it does not seem like people care about it as much as we do. Even this article at times is complaining about conservatives complaining. Take your own advice.
still cannot get over how good Ronda looked. I know it was my match of the night, but I think it was because my expectations were so low that they were beat by leaps and bounds. While I was expecting Charlotte and Asuka to be great and it matched that expectation.
Worst match of the night for wrestling was Strowman's match, but the side angle made up enough for it to not be the overall worst match of the night. That goes to Brock and Reigns. I get so tired of the one and done moves that come from every single match Brock is in. One move, wait 15-30 seconds, repeat until you are bored to tears.....
I am not a huge fan of Reigns, but he can at least do a bit of chain wrestling when in the ring with a good technician. Brock.... he needs to go back to the UFC.
I am reading Super Powered Year 4. Best superhero series I have read. Wearing the Cape is the second best.
Superheroes was a genre that I have been heavily in for a while the series I have read are:
Dire Saga (very close to the second best superhero series. Excellent anti-hero)
Tales of a D-List Supervillain (Very fun with snarky Hero/Villain)
The Reckoners (Not fan of the last book, but interesting take on Supers. Dark to begin with)
Renegade X (major teen angst and rebelion, but funny still)
H.E.R.O. (first five-ish are good, but goes off the rails after that... and there are 20ish of them)
Plenty of others, but the quality drops quite a bit at this point.
Jaybird's group (which I am part of) are much more magpie gamers flitting from game to game, so we do not have the Hero system experience and it showed....
Loved the character creation of the Hero system, but that is about it.
This would not be a comparison of the NFL's numbers to the MLB number in 2017, but more MLB's 2016 numbers to MLB's 2017 numbers. Is there a similar drop in in viewership percentage as compared to the NFL's drop in viewership.
I think another comparison is needed. How are the other 'major' sports doing TV wise? Is NBA and MLB down in ratings year-over-year as well (could add in NHL and MLS I guess but they might be too small to compare). If they are down as well, then I can believe the cord cutting hit being true, if not then there is something else causing it.
I have been thinking for a while to do a "Trump Voter" score card and kept finding reasons why I did not want to bother.
This has motivated me a little to at least briefly give one.
crisis management - B-: Hurricane on main land US were handled well. Puerto Rico was handled poorly. No other national crisis.
policy achievements/appointments - A:Wonderful judge appointments, very good reductions in regulations, good, over due tax overhaul.
Down marks for failing on ACA and the shifting of some tax bunrdens in the tax overhaul bill (tax cuts are just that - cuts, not shifting the taxes to people you don't like).
I also think you overestimate what a Jeb!, Rubio, Average Republican would have done. They would not have failed on ACA, because they would have done nothing or even worse, validated it by doing some "reforms" to it, but leaving it in place. Trump at least gets better marks for dropping the individual mandates.
electoral effects - C: To a large number of liberals, Trump stole this election and would be highly motivated by Trump breathing heavily. The wave was going to be there no matter what. Now he has not helped his cause by the stupid crap that comes out of his twitter account and it that stuff that drops this to a C.
institutional development - N/A: The shear left anger and the constant attack from the opposition party (CNN, NBC, ABC, etc) gets this one thrown out for me. Though I will go back to the stupid crap Trump tweets as a negative.
Also, I wanted someone that would fight (openly) in office and that has not disappointed. There has been face palm moments, but I was expecting there to be as part of the open fight.
Now for the one missed.
Foreign policy - A: Israel, ISIS, North Korea, NAFTA drop, PTA drop, Paris climate accord drop, push for immigration reform all top marks.
Poor execution of travel bans, Puerto Rico, turning foreign leaders like UK's May into enemies with stupid comments reduce this from an A+ to an A.
It was a good Rumble. The worst parts were the tag matches. I do not know why they decided to have them both be throwaway stories. Ugh.
Still it did not detract from one of the best 30 man Rumble matches I have seen. Good comedy, good stories to come from it and a dream match for many fan at Wresltemania.
The women's match was also the best 30 women match I have ever seen (see what I did there). Jay is right, they made it good. My main problem was seeing the men's match before this and it being much better with the stories, so the lack of stories to come out of the women's Rumble was in stark contrast. Having Ronda come out did not elevate it. It main ways I thought it detracted from the winner.
I think I am the odd one. The best out of the three was Begins. Dark Knight was decent, but way to dark for my tastes on superhero movies. Rises was too dumb plot, still too dark for my tastes, and not enough Batman being Batman. I only go back and watch Begins these days.
And that is where I have more faith in Trump. I expect him to be a good faith bargaining partner more often than not. And I do not think he will be able to get way with "just do what you want" since there are enough republicans that would cross over (all it will take is 2-3 in the senate) of something truly bad.
Still, time will tell if your view or my becomes reality (most likely it will be somewhere in the middle).
True, I will be interested to see if the GOP rolls over like usual or will they fight Trump on some issues. I am more with Morat20, they most likely will roll over.
