Ah, so this is where Barenaked Ladies got the idea for their song.

A million dollars in 1925 is about 14 million today. But also for a million in the 1920s, you could buy like over 500 houses

On “The Joys Of Opening Time Capsules: 2020 Election Predictions

The 2016 final tally was 62.98 million Trump, 65.85 million Clinton. My overall feel is Trump does gain votes on net, as third party & esp McMuffin voters come home, but is substantially mitigated by the Trump to Biden switch voters, and those that literally stay home (& don't vote by mail or other).

Biden also gets some of the third party vote last time that is picking a side (including McMuffin himself). 1 million more votes might be a reach, but I am banking on the 2008 & 2012 Obama voter that either sat out or was shut out in 2016. And a Dem party election strategy that is not really worried too much about the opportunity cost of running up the score in safe Dem states. (This last might be wishcasting though)

Senate - - 50/50 next year https://www.270towin.com/2020-senate-election/MmZyP5
(Collins finally loses, Dems also flip NC. But Earnst holds on, as does the GOP MT senator. Flipping both AZ and CO, though makes up for the loss of the AL seat)

"

Ok, here is where I’m at now - https://www.270towin.com/maps/gwN49

My ‘boldest’ predictions are that both AZ & NC break for Biden, while WI stays with Trump (being the lone remaining ‘brick’ in the reconstructed northern mid west so called blue wall

Popular vote - 66.8 to 67.2 million For Biden, 63.0 to 63.5 million for Trump.

50.1% Biden 47.3% Trump

Libertarians will get fewer than 2 million votes. Everyone else will get fewer than 1 million apiece (& fewer than 1.5 million collectively)

"

Basically, I don’t have the courage of the above prediction because I don’t see Wisconsin stays with Trump while NE-2 switches to Biden. Similarly, I don’t see how Wisconsin stays red while ME-1 would switch. (Which would remove NE-2’s need to switch)

But....Nebraska 2 is filled with both Republicans in more the classic suburban mold, plus a bunch of national security oriented conservatives where their professional lives are spent with their fingers on The Button. So maybe?

(Also, if Wisconsin literally burns between now and November)

"

Not my actual prediction, but imo the most likely ‘sum of all fears’ map.

(My actual prediction I’m still working on because I think Biden gets back more BlueWall states, but not sure yet which ones)

Great stuff

(whether Virginia did or not is moot)

The issue surrounding retrocession still pop up from time to time . there have been some legal battles in the late 20th century* over jurisdiction and ownership/easement rights of the Alexandria waterfront. Because the original colonial era border between MD/VA went right up the Virginia shoreline, which then went back to that after retrocession, but both before and after that Alexandria built out its waterfront with landfill. Then complicating things were increasing environmental regulations - but uneven implementation between state & federal regs, plus Congress exercising exclusive jurisdiction to make some specific Potomac rules within its border.

*I think they were also used as a hail mary to (unsuccessfully) stop the CIty of Alexandria from doing a major waterfront redevelopment in the 2010s.

There was also a plan for a while for the Pentagon reservation to formerly revert back to DC. (because of that oolie with the Potomac river making the boundary, the island right next to the Pentagon (but on the near side of the main Potomac river channel) is technically DC.

Hm1 - as has been said by others, the most powerful 'defunding' force right now, and the one most likely to achieve results, is the implosion of state and esp local government budgets because of the (rightly, to be perfectly clear) suspended economic activity over the past two plus months. (And that will almost certainly be significantly depressed for the rest of the year, and perhaps even the next).

Simple 'cross the board' cuts won't make anyone happy, but it probably also won't energize as significant oppostion as more targeted efforts would

She was in red sparrow in 2018, which I think was about training young women to be Russian super spies. But I could see how that can lost in the miasma with there also being out there Scar Jo’s Black Widow, who will soon have an origin story movie about young women training to be Russian super spies, and Netflix’s Russian doll, which apparently is *not* about young women training to be Russian super spies, as I thought when I started this comment.

(But back to Lawerence, apparently she was also in the Sophie Turner (from Game of Thrones) x-men movie, but I never saw it. But neither did any one else. IMDb also has some projects of Lawrence’s that were supposed to be released this year, but we know how all that went)

Looking up “jazz band” in articles in the NewYork Times in 1924 led me to an article about this guy, who, with his super rich investment banker dad backing him, formed and fronted an orchestra at Age 17 for broadway shows.

Subhead to the article is “youthful leader cares nothing for opera, but does love the moaning saxophone”

(His dad, though, was also apparently gifted musically, but was not of the social class to make a living at that as a young man)
