Moving On
This is just a short note to the Ordinary Times community: I’ve started a new blog called Clown Town. It will be my main nonprofessional outlet from now on.
Again and again, I’ve found myself not posting at OT for two reasons: First, I wanted to write about things I thought were very unlikely to appeal. And second, I came to hate taking away the front page from anyone else’s fine work, particularly when this site has served as an incubator for so many writers over the years. I have very warm feelings for you all, but the time has come for me to move on.
I’ll still be in the comments sections now and again, and I invite you to stop by my new place as well.
I am stricken that you’re moving on but respect your choice (even if I disagree with your reasons). I’ll try and look in on your new digs regularily.Report
Well, I shall miss your posts here greatly. Best wishes for the new site and watch for me there.Report
sorry to see you going jason. once you go clown, we will all frown.Report
So long and thanks for all the fish.
Er thoughtful and provocative pieces of writing.Report
You will be missed.Report
Oh, dude. This is good for you but… man. I will miss the heck out of you and will visit Clown Town until I am banned.Report
Forget it Jaybird, it’s Clown Town.Report
Also, this news is kinda bumming me out. Godspeed, Jason, but don’t be a stranger.Report
I second the regrets that you’re moving on, and the best wishes for the new digs.
I note that we’ll probably still send you email demanding that you participate in an occasional Symposium using an occasional guest post.
Nicely.Report
I’ll miss you here, but I do hope that now that you’ve got a place of your own again, you’ll post more.Report
Added it to my bookmark list. I’m curious about what you thought might not appeal — OT is a pretty eclectic place…Report
No, it isn’t.Report
Two things.
First, I feel like the series on belief incomplete; and I was very much enjoying it. To my mind, there’s no person more willing to push against his own biases, so your insights were greatly valued. I hope you’ll continue the series, Jason.
Second is a huge thank you for editing my most recent post. I needed an editor, I’ve worked with many gifted editors, and you did as fine a job as any I’ve ever worked with. With your departure, I mourn I’ll not be able to ask for it again. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your effort.
I love the quote from Virginia Postrel.Report
I found the religion series very hard to complete. I just couldn’t come up with a satisfying conclusion to it at all. I may revisit it in time, and making it a swan song here might be the push that I need.
As to the editing, don’t hesitate to ask again. I’d be delighted.Report
Sorry to see you go but best wishes with your new venture.Report
Sorry to see you go Jason, but I’ll keep an eye on your new project.Report

(By the way, you don’t have an RSS link up there.
Also, should this be considered an inversion?Report
Ah, if it’s a choice between you not writing here and writing there, I’m glad to have a place to read you. Best wishes.Report
Miss you already.Report
Jason, I’m sad that you’re leaving us Loogies for greener grasses. You’re the one libertarian who gave me faith in the whole experiment. (Well, Hanley too, but don’t tell any I said that.) One thing, tho: I’ve noticed that you aren’t accepting comments at your new place, which must be an oversight on your part, or more likely a technical glitch that will soon be worked out.
Good luck to you, sir, on your new endeavor. You’ll see me over there soon.Report
Aww shucks. Thanks. It means a lot to me. It really does.
Comments ought to be working now. If they still aren’t, please let me know.Report
This may not be appropriate in a thread like this one, but here’s an explanation of why I won’t be reading Jason’s new blog.
tl;dr: It has everything to do with my dislike of clowns and nothing to do with Jason, whom I greatly admire and respect and whose contributions to the OT I’ll miss.Report
This is why RSS is so important.Report
RSS is now also up.Report
