Yeah, about Rush…
Canadian trio Rush has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Considering their success and longevity, this seems warranted.
And that’s all I’ll say about that.

Dude, we are never going to get scores of epic comments if that’s all you’re willing to say.Report
I know. Some of us are willing to go back to the same hornet nest and go “poke-a, poke-a, poke-a” over and over, just for the sake of opening the floodgates of entertaining Internet crazy.Report
RUSH CIRCUMCISES DEER TICKS!!!
There. That oughta do it.Report
Good work, Glyph. It’s good to know there are some people around here I can count on.Report
Hall of Fame…..puh-leeasssee
When were they ever the MVP? When did they lead Rock in hitting or RBI’s?
They were a solid player but never stood out.Report
If we’re going to figure this scientifically, the band that belongs on the HoF is WAR.Report
meh…they played in an era tainted by performance enhancing drugs. They get an asterisk.Report
The Hall of Fame of Sucking? Because that’s where they belong.Report

Rush are awesome, but I’m going for Kraftwerk. Did you know they could be about a 1000x heavier than Rush? It’s true!

True story: I was staying in a youth hostel in Prague, this would have been the summer of ’98, I think, and in the room with me were two Australians and a Canadian kid. The Canadian kid had the obligatory Canadian flag patch on his back pack, and he also wore a series of Rush t-shirts. We all hung out for an evening (and oh my good, roast rabbit and cold strawberry soup in Prague — I still dream of you), and the Canadian kid was extremely annoyed that the Australians couldn’t tell our accents apart.Report
Why choose between Rush and Kraftwerk? Just listen to Trans Am.Report
An excellent suggestion, although I always preferred their album Red Line.Report
I actually just picked that one up a couple weeks ago with some eMusic credit I had left over (Futureworld and Surrender to the Night I already had) but haven’t listened to it yet. Mebbe tonight.
You ever see ’em live? Terrific band. That drummer is BONKERS.Report
Not them, but did you ever see Don Caballero? If you like Trans Am, you’d probably dig them as well. They also have a crazy great drummer.Report
Hey, this just came up on shuffle (“The Dark Gift”). Pretty, pretty, prettaaay good.Report
After Rush, who? Dream Theater?Report
Nobody listens to them, though.Report
Why the hell would they?
I went to a Dream Theater show in 1993. It was incredibly boring, except for all the guys who played guitar in heavy metal bands at my high school, who were blown away by whatever the hell the guitarist was doing up there.
I saw Rush in 1995 and got that t-shirt with the monkeys. That is literally all I remember about that show (that, and my date, who also got a t-shirt with monkeys on it).Report
You shouldn’t have smoked so much weed.Report
Have you ever seen Rush…ON WEED?Report
there are some musical problems even weed can’t fix. dream theater is one of them.Report
Back when I used to ‘partake’ on a regular basis, that was how you knew a show or record was really bad or boring; if it STILL wasn’t at least somewhat interesting when you were in that headspace, with the kind of patience and focus it can bring, then it was hopeless.Report
Dream Theater are, in fact, lame, but I would suggest King Crimson as a good next step.Report
Yeah, they never really did it for me either.Report
