“While companies have gotten way better about making their cans stackable…”

I’m continually at war with myself over stacking cans.

On the one hand, those cans with rolled edges on both ends (rather than a nesting stamped cone at the base) are infuriating, because they DO NOT stack.

On the other hand, the stuff people put in those cans is often hard to get out of the can cleanly — like tomato paste or cranberry jelly — and it’s nice to be able to can-opener both ends and just push it all out like a piston.

I tried making adapter rings with my 3D printer that nested in top and bottom of those cans and let you stack them, which worked great, once, and then we lost all of them. (you probably don’t need a 3D printer to do this, you could cut pieces of wood, or hacksaw down two empty cans and fix the bottoms end-to-end with glue or tape.)Report

    • I haven’t tried, but the inside diameters of PVC pipe of different sizes turn out to be a good friction fit for a surprising number of things.Report

That’s a solid tip, although I don’t want anyone already stressed about how to do any of this to think they NEED them. There are ways to deal with troublesome cans without any financial outlay!

That is a great tip about opening the cans on both ends! There are a couple things that give me fits (tomato paste being one of them) getting them out of the can.

My husband build me a set of cheap shelves so I keep my “naughty” cans there, and then have a different area where I stack the stacky ones.Report
