only middle class people in third world countries will understand thisReport
I kinda felt it when I’d be at the airport and want to carry my own luggage no I don’t want any help thank you I’ve got this.
The Smart Cart things have more or less replaced this dynamic of flying. For better or worse, not many folks standing around to help anymore.Report
I wondered if a club “understanding” was involved in this. Country clubs used to — don’t know about currently — require you to buy a certain number of fancy meals in the dining room each month. You couldn’t just pay extra, you had to show up. It was a matter of economics: if they didn’t serve enough meals they couldn’t keep staff. Caddies are somewhat the same deal: if too few players use caddies then all of the caddies will go somewhere else and no one gets to use a caddie.
Electric cart economics are, as I understand it, somewhat similar. To support enough carts that they never have to say, “We’re out of carts,” they have to require players to use (and pay for) carts every time.Report
At least in South Africa last year, they still had ‘aggressive’ sky caps. (one slipped thru confused signals between my wife and I, and moved the bag from basically the end of the line we were in to the scale and so had to get a tip. And we didn’t have rand yet)Report
