Kids, Reminding Us About Awesome
Last night at the PTA meeting we had one of those stories:
A third grader is taking an art class, and her mother is trying to introduce an entrepreneurial spirit, so they decided to set up an Etsy store and sell her artwork as greeting cards. Her mother asked her what she wanted to do with the profits, and Nevada said, “Give the money to the school!”
The first donation check is coming in, and it’s $100. From a third grader! Of course all the parents at the PTA meeting thought this was the just a great story. They want to have her present the check to the PTA President at the weekly school assembly and have the PTA give her thanks in front of the school.
Most of these kids are on free/reduced lunch. They probably don’t have a lot of opportunities on their radar. A reminder that hey, it’s possible to create little wedges of opportunity in the world is always a good thing.
And then I idly pulled up her store on my phone, and holy cow, these are really super cute cards. So I thought to myself, who would like these cards, and like to make a little girl feel like she’s really doing something really awesome, and also do some awesome? And all that questions about awesome made me think of OT, of course.
So.
If you’re in the market for a greeting card, I would think it’s pretty cool if you took a minute to browse the selection.
