I keep telling myself I need to finish S2 of House of Cards, but most of my TV watching lately has been background to other stuff, and that does not work for House of Cards. I did finally force myself to sit down at watch the final episode of season 3 of Sherlock.
I finished up Crown of Swords last week, then I polished off the rest of Small Gods. I was having trouble keeping up with the Orbology schedule, so I just decided to plow through to the finish. Now I am starting on Path of Daggers.
Last week also finished up my third time reading Preacher. I must say it no longer has the appeal it did for a younger me. So much of the content just seemed to be shocking for the sake of being shocking. However, the action movie parody with Jody and T.C. is still one of the funniest things I have read.
I have been playing Phantasy Star IV as well. However, over the last week, most of my gaming has been Guild Wars 2. I plan to get back to Phantasy Star soon, and I want to finish it before I start the new Shadowrun Returns campaign.
I have a date for lunch tomorrow. I have not been on a date in a while (because I have not been looking), so this is exciting.
Also, one would think asking a lady for a date would get easier, especially when she has been giving clear indications of interest, but I still choke up like a fishing high schooler.
This episode really displays the talents of both Andreas Katsula and Peter Jurasik. You covered the reasons for Katsulas, but I am also impressed by Jurasik's ability to invoke pity, despite the horrible things Londo has done. There always seems to be this core of a guy who wants to do right, but does not know how, and who is easily sidetracked by his love for his nation.
Regarding G'Kar's early "Snidely Whiplash" characterization, I think that was intentional. Most of the characters were presented as certain stereotypes early on, only to reveal later that they are not exactly what they seem.
I am still making my way through Phantasy Star IV. It has been fairly enjoyable, and I am optimistic that I will be able to finish it. I also started playing Space Pirates and Zombies, an interesting space shooter, for a little faster pace.
The Dragonfall Expansion to Shadowrun Returns, which takes the game to Berlin and addresses many of the concerns with the original game, came out this week. However, I will wait until I am finished with Phantasy Star before I start it. With the expansion, it is now possible to save the game anywhere, and the new campaign is supposed to be much less linear than the base game was.
I started watching WWE after a long hiatus a couple months after last year's Mania. This is one of the top PPVs I have seen in that time. The worst match on the card was Batista v Del Rio, and since it involved Del Rio mauling Batista, it made it okay. I was not expecting a good match with Batista involved, so it was cathartic.
The big question is, are they going to shoehorn Bryan into a triple threat match and give him the belt at Mania? The ending seemed to suggest it, but this past year has taught me to expect disappointment.
Hogan returns tonight, and he is only hosting Wrestlemania, not wrestling. I am excited to see that. WWE network is launching, and there is so much content to watch. It is a good time to be a mark.
I have never done a proper preorder, but I have a good list of videogames I have supported on Kickstarter. Other than Shadowrun Returns, I am still waiting on most of them. I like the idea of supporting the games that I want to see made.
I thought I would not be able to do any boardgaming last week, but one of the guys came through, so I finally got to try out Dreadball. It was fun, though it is really designed for league play, where the players can develop over time (and the risk of player death is a bigger deal), than for one-shot games. I hope I can find a league now that I am in a bigger city.
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with scatological interpretations of Elimination Chamber, and following last month's Royal Rumble, one might argue they are even more appropriate.
My original plans for this weekend were to start boardgaming again, but unfortunately my group fell through. Now, my plan is to visit some local hobby shops and see if I can find a way to get a group together through them. Really, the worst part about moving was leaving my gamer friends behind. I have a large collection of games, and some large kickstarter purchases that will be coming over the next year, and they need to get some use.
Things with my second wife ended badly. For the last year or two of that relationship, I was miserable. It wore on me, and the strain made me something of a jerk to some people who were close to me.
Once things were finally, cleanly, over and done with, and I had a week or two to grieve, I had a moment where I suddenly realized "holy crap, I am happy now." Then I realized how truly unhappy I had been for such a long time. Being unhappy had become normal, and I no longer noticed it. It has been over 2 years. I am still single, and I am still happy. I spent the majority of my life since my teens in one long-term-relationship or another. Being able to focus on myself and my son, and spend my time as I please, is wonderful. It has been a period of self-improvement. I started exercising. I learned guitar. I started spending more time with friends.
I have not sworn off relationships, but right now I am happily single, and I am not putting any effort into changing that.
Saturday, I finished off American Horror Story: Asylum so that I could start season 2 of House of Cards, though I am only one episode into the latter.
I am still reading A Crown of Swords, though I have slowed down a bit. I typically read during my lunch break, but my lunches have been busy over the past week.
@brandon-berg People seem to think that, with the current pricing model for cable, they are paying for many channels they do not watch. The hope is that, with a la carte pricing, they could only pay for the handful of channels they watch. However, it is entirely possible that a la carte pricing would result in the loss of niche channels if they did not have enough subscribers to be profitable, leading to fewer channels to choose from overall.
If you never got into the first album, I doubt you would get into Breach. It has a different sound, but I do not think it has a different appeal. The track I linked gives a pretty good example of what it sounds like.
The next album, Red Letter Days, seemed to be an attempt to reach a larger audience, so that might appeal to you. I guess it depends on what you are into.
Personally, the lyrics are the biggest selling point of The Wallflowers.
I am sure it would be great at first, but I think would end in stomach ache and regret (I think there is a metaphor about bad relationships to be made there). It would not fit with my current fitness goals, either.
I am spending today with the person I love most--myself. I have joked about baking a red velvet cake, buying a bottle of red wine, and consuming both in their entirety, but there are many reasons that is a bad idea.
I do have my favorite breakup album, Breach by The Wallflowers, on my playlist for today, but that is mostly coincidence. I was talking music with a coworker yesterday, and it came up in discussion, and that gave me a hankering to listen.
This definitely stands as a favorite episode. After some of the clunky episodes that left me reconsidering my opinion, I am reminded of why I was so fond of it. There is some quality acting from the better actors of the show, and the plot moves really well. G'Kar's reconciliation with Londo, while Londo knows what he has done, and then G'Kar's reaction when he finds out about the colony, are great moments.
As DaveNYC says, with Londo, there appears to be some hope that he will turn around. He does these things, despite his reservations. Vir tries to turn him around, but Londo just digs his hole deeper.
(He accepts this “I have information from a source I can’t tell you anything about, but I promise it’s reliable” thing pretty quickly.)
If you do not trust your Chief of Security, you have problems.
Not a lot of watching this weekend. I got to the halfway point of American Horror Story: Asylum. That is the point where the status quo gets thoroughly upset, and things start careening toward the end. Not much else. Instead of TV I spent a bit of time listening to podcasts, trying to get caught up. A few of my regulars had extra episodes last week. Normally, I just listen while driving, but over the weekend I put some on while cooking or just sitting on the couch.
Also, for those interested, that American Gods is going to be made into a TV Series and Anansi Boys is going to be made into a miniseries. I am looking forward to both of these.

I finished Crown of Swords. I am not sure what I will read next, whether continuing The Wheel of Time or going on to something different.
