I saw 3-2 over the weekend. Though I enjoyed it, for the first 2/3s of the episode I found myself wondering where it was going. Then it all came together, and I thought it was a darn good episode.

I finished up To The Moon. Overall it was a good, short game, despite the lack of actual gameplay. It was a bit saccharine, but I thought the payoff was worth the ride.

With that done, I decided to go old school with Phantasy Star IV. I never played the series, but I heard good things about it, and I got the impression this was the best of them. Whether it will hold my interest long enough to finish, I really do not know.

With Season 2 of The Office, it quit trying to be the UK version.
With Season 2 of Parks and Rec, it quit trying to be the US version of The Office.

Both ways of watching have merit. The first time I watched B5, it was a binge. Usually 1 episode a night, but sometimes a weekend might let us get in multiple episodes. Towards season 3, it starts moving fast, and we often found ourselves staying up late just to see the next episode.

On the other hand, watching shows over time can definitely help with the suspense. Sometimes, even the lack of a commercial break can affect the pacing. The 2 minutes can give the feeling of time passing, and when the commercials are gone, the cut can be jarring.

As far as the social aspect, I have never really been involved in water cooler talk about shows that I have been watching, but they may be a reflection of my own unhip self.

I always carry a handkerchief. I have had times when my nose would run non-stop, and Kleenex would not suffice. Now, I never have to worry about it.

Bester was always one of my favorite characters. Few TV characters can elicit a visceral hatred like he does. Considering Koenig's previous character was largely comic relief, I was impressed by how well he worked out.

I can do without the touching, unless it is a family member or someone I am dating.

A live performance and a recording (whatever the media) are two completely different products. I can enjoy a live concert of music that I would never listen to otherwise, just because the experience makes it worthwhille.

On that note, it has been way too long since I have seen live music.

@james-hanley
I cannot wait until that is on Netflix.

I watched a lot of stuff this weekend. The weather did not really encourage me to get out of the house.

I watched The Conjuring, which I really enjoyed. I only wish I did not make the decision to watch it while cooking, because my attention was too divided.

I watched The World's End (Simon Pegg movie), which I had confused with This is the End (Seth Rogen movie). Later, I corrected my mistake and watched This is the End. Both movies kept me laughing, though I think I preferred the latter.

I also finished up Season 1 of American Horror Story, which definitely came together after the first couple of episodes. I might have liked a bit more horror, but overall I though the story was interesting. It reminded me of the Nicole Kidman haunted house movie (whose name I forget) that showed the ghosts' POV. The final episode reminded me of Beetlejuice.

I have known a few of those. Sorry, you cannot keep a guy in reserve as a backup in case your dream guy never shows up.

Broken Age is definitely on my radar as a game to play when I clear out my backlog a bit.

I have finished Papo and Yo. It was a fun game. Aside from the serious story elements (the creator used the game to explore his relationship with his alcoholic father), it had some interesting gameplay elements to it. It has a nice, dream-like, fantastic feel to it. You interact with chalk-lines to transform the surroundings, such as pulling staircases out of walls, or picking up miniature buildings to move their full-sized equivalents. I would actually like to see a game that focuses on those aspects a bit more with more difficulty to the puzzle aspect. Still, I would highly recommend that game.

After that, I started To the Moon, where you play a team of scientists who give people new memories. Your job is to give a dying man the memory of travelling to the moon, and you have to travel back through his memories to do this. As you do so, you work back through the story of his life.

This title is very light on the game play, and focused more on the story. You basically follow the bread crumbs to activate the next story scene. It was made in RPG Maker, so it looks like a 16-bit Final Fantasy. I have not finished the game, but I like it so far. I think it feels a little more like a game than Dear Esther, because there is a little more interactivity, but it is still more story than game.

Nothing exciting planned for this weekend. I have a good-sized list of movies that I want to watch, so it will just be a matter of picking which ones I will actually view. Beyond that, I have no idea.

It's not even Monkey Tuesday yet.

I do not watch Evangelion expecting lighthearted fun. I expect terminal depression.

The original TMNT live action movie is based on the comic, not the cartoon. It is a bit darker and grittier. Fair warning, in case you were considering viewing it with The Boy. #s 2 and 3 are more cartoonish.

On “Babylonia!

This was one of my favorite episodes as well, though I had forgotten about the telepath plot. Londo is a jerk, but his wives are also truly unpleasant. They were arranged marriages, and his family did not have a lot of influence, so he would not get the best choices, I am sure.

This episode and the last one remind me of one of the things I really liked about this series. There are several independent long-term arcs that go on at once. There are the issues with EarthGov, such as the conspiracy to assassinate the president, the hints at the Psi-Corps' shadowy workings, the Free Mars movement, and the Shadows. All of those plots are constantly moving, and even if they are not in the foreground, there are frequently background indications of things occurring off-screen.

I started on American Horror Story this weekend. I am only 2 episodes in. So far, I find it okay. Unless it gets crappy, I will probably finish the season in hopes that it gets better.

I watched part 2 of The Colour of Magick, which was satisfying. The whole time I watched the miniseries, I knew that Rincewind reminded me of someone. I finally realized it was Edmund Blackadder that he brought to mind.

I also watched Rebuild: Evangelion 3.33. The following might be considered lightly spoilerish.

The movie starts 14 years after the end of the second movie. Shinji and Unit 1 were kept in suspended animation in space for unspecified reasons. The world is even more of a nightmare than it was before. The status quo has been completely uprooted. Everyone hates Shinji, even more than before.

Shinji, who had actually started to form some real connections with people, is more isolated than ever. Most of the movie involves his relationship with the boy who resembles the final angel from the original series and Shinji's attempts to reconnect with Rei. Despite the change in setting, there are definitely still parallels to the original plot.

This movie is slow-paced. It is bookended by a couple of action sequences, but there is little excitement in the middle.

I got the impression that a lot of people hated the changes made, both compared to the original series, and undoing the growth that occurred in the previous Rebuild movies. I am somewhat on the fence. I really did not find a scene-for-scene retelling of the original series to be desirable, and I am much more intrigued by the attempt to create a new story. I also wonder how much of this story might have been intended for the original series, but was thrown out for budget reasons (the studio was nearly broke toward the end of the series).

I did not hate the movie, but I will not really have a firm opinion on the changes until I see where the story ends up.

I finished Season 3 of Community recently, and I think I will stop there. I heard 4 was not great, and although it is supposed to get better with Dan Harmon's return in Season 5, I doubt I will try to make it through.

Not much video gaming, but I got a few games of LOTR LCG under my belt, as planned. I spent a good chunk of time organizing the cards into sheets to facilitate deck building, then I made a pair of decks to use for the first adventure from the Overhill and Underhill expansion. This adventure involves facing off against the trolls that attempt to eat Bilbo and his party. I did not succeed, but I think the decks will work with a little more tweaking.

And how could I forget? This Sunday is the Royal Rumble.

"

No big plans this weekend beyond the usual housework and shopping. I am planning to try some LOTR LCG solo play. I have not had a good opportunity to play in a while, and I have been itching to get back to it. I am also working on gathering people so I can get a regular gaming group going again. A few coworkers are interested, so hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be back in business.

I am still trying to decide if I want to fit this into my reading schedule. I am leaning towards yes.
