To be fair, all of politics -- and political media/commentary especially -- is aimed at the upper-middle class to functional wealthy classes cause that's where the donations, views, consumerism, target marketing is aimed at. But I think you are correct, at least I agree from my own experience, that those drawn to Trump's personality was because they thought of him as the ultimate evolution of themselves if they had the money to do it.
A corollary to you thought here Saul, we all remarked and noticed how the MAGA rallies from the 2016 campaign throughout the Trump administration and including January 6th always seemed full of folks with plenty of disposable income, and wanted to be really loud about having disposable income while hollering about how they were part of the oppressed working class. Boat parades are not cheap thing to participate in. This is of course not universal, social media is full of loud jackasses of all ideological stripes. But to the point though I skirt around it in the piece, the more the "conservatism" label becomes exclusively a culture reactionary thing, not ideological and not even really political in the policy sense, the more it's going to fester with the MAGAbros as they have been called elsewhere like the Gaetz and other clowns.
Everyone involved here knew before this piece was being published and talked with the editors before we posted so this is not an attack or swipe on anyone's part.
JDD didn't know Freddie was an OT Alumnus when he initially wrote the piece.
Nothing about Freddie's situation was in the original JDD piece that Freddie himself has written on publicly and extensively.
Having said all that, let's keep this one civil, like Kristin says in here piece the discourse is what makes this place special.
I'm torn on this one, since "SEX TRAFFFICKING OMG" headlines almost always end up not, in fact, being about sex trafficking at all. My initial feel was that Gaetz was overlapping a very unsavory character in Greenberg and that's the gist of the DOJ push. What paused me from that was Tucker dropping information live on air that a half-decent defense attorney would tell him he probably shouldn't even if innocent. That tidbit Gaetz dropped about the dinner with Tucker got a good online discussion going as to whether his reaction was on of:
1. Your making that up didn't happen
2. I'll play dumb cause I don't remember
3. Dude, that wasn't my wife
4. Are you threatening me?
5. She was how old?
Just really bizarre stuff. See where it goes from here
There was quite a bit of commentary back when this case was argued by folks listening to it (pandemic so it was streamed) about how poorly the counsel for Shawnee State was at the podium. Really bad, by all accounts from across the spectrum. The other item that was brought up in arguments was the student taking on the "I'll get you fired" which most legal folks felt was a not good look.
One other item to note here, this was a pre-emptive 1A filing from the professor.
I normally don't comment on such things but this is laughably ignorant. Not only do I rarely comment myself, since it isn't really fair for the person responsible for posting and promoting the content of the site to be doing so other than my personal opinions, I never "ghost" any comment from a regular commenter, whatever that is supposed to mean. We don't even have a mechanism to do so. If it's flagged it is for a reason, and almost all the flagged comments are still allowed. For example we have zero flagged comments right now as I write this. I can count on two hands the number of comments I've intervened on in the last 3 years and almost all of them was to discuss those comments with the other editors and leave to Will what to do about it. The one - ONE - case of me swinging the moderator hammer on someone in comments in the last three years was not involving you and was only with discussion with Will and unanimous approval of the editors.
Be mad elsewhere, your venting is misplaced here and makes you look silly.
It's amazing, I saw that commercial so many times, and they had that in the libraries of the schools I went too as well. And never noticed any of that. Funny how things work out.
The morning started out with the state asking for a delay to jury selection to re-admit the 3rd degree murder charge, which the judge denied. That publicity stunt of bumping the initial charges to 2nd degree murder sure feels like the moment that doomed this prosecution. There is still apparently a chance they get the lesser charges in on jury instructions but it was such a bad look for what is going to be a complicated explainer of a prosecution. I'm with you, I hope I'm proven wrong, but unless they get get a lesser charge Chauvin is probably going to get off here. And God help the streets if he does.
