Weekend!
Last week, I intended to take it easy, but ended up working a 16 on Friday, then a 14 on Monday, a 12 on Tuesday…
Anyway, I ended up with a couple of those weeks that make me say “I have no idea what’s going on, I’m going to give the post to Maribou.”
So here she is.
Um, so Jaybird just sat me down and said “here you go”. But I’m kind of having one of those weeks too. No 16s on my end at least.
But I do know what we are up to because I had to write it all down or I would’ve double-booked us. My brain is a sieve this week.
Anyway, tomorrow Jaybird has the day off (knock on wood) and I only have to work 3-6. Then we are going to outdoor Shakespeare with sometimes-commenter Fish and his wonderful wife. Saturday I work 7:30-11:30 am, then there’s a work-related pig roast for several hours, then we are probably going to collapse in bed by 7:30 pm or so. Sunday I am going over to sometimes-commenter Dman’s house to hang out with his wife and watch Outlander. Monday, while not technically part of the weekend, will be my last chance to attend Monday night wrasslin’ before I go back to working noon-8s on Mondays.
Plus, you know, the usual round of chores, errands, and “ugh, it’s too hot to cook, do you want to go out or should we order something?” (Tonight, it feels too hot to go out AND too hot to order something. A dilemma.)
So, what’s on your docket?
I’m really excited cuz tomorrow I’m having lunch with a young woman I know from Twitter, who I haven’t met. Anyway, she’s a huge fangirl of one of my company’s products, so I invited her for lunch. I’ll show her around and give her some swag.
Friday night, dancing.
Saturday, friend in town, so lunch and drinks or whatever.
Sunday I’m going to try some writing again. I haven’t written much in forever, so, I’m pretty rusty.Report
One year ago today, I went a full day without a cigarette. I haven’t had one since. So tonight we went out and celebrated.
I got my hands on a new Thinkpad T540p this week, and I absolutely hated it, so I need to send that back.
Tomorrow I need to get the car checked out because of a check engine light. It also gives me an opportunity to do some banking, as our bank does not operate in our state and I will be crossing into a state where they do.Report
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
And I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I don’t know that I’ve thought about my momma every day for the last seven years… but I’ve thought about smoking every day.Report
Congrats on the year.Report
Awesome!Report
Will,
Congrats on the no-smoking. Big milestone.
I’m typing this from my Thinkpad T430, which is my work laptop and without a doubt the best laptop I have ever had. Sooooo fast. I think my next laptop purchase will be a Thinkpad for sure.Report
Sweet anniversary! Here’s looking at two!Report
Congrats.Report
W00T! W00T!Report
Congratulations on the smoking! Wish I could say the same.Report

Trumpets! Good on you.Report
R. is finally back in town, so we’re going to relax, watch some movies, get some Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken, maybe some “miracle chicken“, and some reading.Report
There is nothing better than “back to normalish”.Report
We ain’t quite there yet, but this is at least a huge step in that direction.Report
Saturday #1 daughter takes her driving test. With her athletic and academic schedule, we desperately need her to pass. Parallel parking may be a problem. That’s one thing I can actually do, so of course I can’t seem to teach it.Report
Work has been bonkers for me. We are in the middle of implementing the Account From Hell. In nearly 15 years with my company I have never seen such a crazy service agreement. We are going to do things for them that we have never done and it’s going to be sink or swim. We’re at that point where the project is right on the edge of spinning out of control and i must admit for most of us it’s like heroin. The adrenalin of trying to cope with it all is pretty intoxicating so long as we all keep our wits about us. My job of writing the work instructions for all the various job functions has been made extremely interesting trying to decipher all of the weird tasks they have for us. I’ve agreed to 50 hour weeks, provided I can do anything over 40 at home and they actually agreed to it. Success!
Saturday is taking the car in for repairs in the morning. Nothing major, just a little maintenance. We have trivia night with the family at the parish I grew up in. Should be fun.
Nothing on the slate for Sunday. The heat and hunidity is going to be brutal. I’ll need to find an indoor task, probably finishing up on cleaning all my guns for hunting season. The smell of Hoppe’s cleaner will make me happy.Report
I got an Alpha release at the end of the month, so it’s work work work.Report
Oh, and Dr. Who.Report
Here in four hours, I get to have my wonderful wife drive me in for an epidural, to try to repair the massive damage in my lumbar region (two herniated disks.) If this doesn’t work, its surgery, so please wish me luck!Report
Oof, that sucks. Good luck dude.Report
Good luck. And good god.Report
Good luck, man.Report
Good luck and mend wellReport
Good luck to you!Report
I had a dream last night that there was a famous movie about Teddy Roosevelt, and the lead actor looks remarkably like @jaybird
Can’t remember what the movie was about, but it featured TR/Jaybird as a ghost in part of it. In a police uniform. But it was definitely TR, and definitely looked like Jaybird in a moustache and hair.Report
Are we taking a break for a week or two between Seasons 2 and 3 of the Babylon 5 book club, or are we moving straight on to Season 3?Report
