Speed Tiki: The Catamarn Mon Tiki Sustaining at 10-12 knots
The above clip show the rooster-tail wake that the catamaran Mon Tiki leaves as she sails at a sustained speed of 10-12 knots. This is about 30% of the typical racing speed of the much ballyhoo’d AC72 foiling catamarans that raced last summer in the America’s Cup.
To put this in perspective, imagine a Conestoga Wagon cum RV, with a galley and sleeping quarters, carrying paying passengers and all the tools and supplies used to build and maintain her, going about 80 miles an hour across the prairie.
An easy inference from this post is that I’m proud of my boat, and I am. There are others, I think; but I’ll leave making them to you.
