We are having days where the temp doesn’t fall below 74 and the humidity merely says “oppressive”. The highs are in the mid 90’s and it rains some every day. The ground feels like a 6 inch sponge sitting in 4 inches of water. The ground is so wet that I have not been able to put in my fall tomatoes and the poor things are sitting in small pots on the porch with their roots screaming for room.
We are still demoing my mother in laws house. We thought we could get by without tearing out the cabinets but I took a small one out to look and their was this bluish-green organism growing so we had to tear out the rest of the cabinets. Tomorrow and Sunday is tear out the rest of the wainscoting out and letting the place air out for a couple of weeks.
Ah, the joys of dealing with a 1000 year rain event.
I do so miss those high pressure blue skies with no humidity days of my youth in Boulder.Report

Those words you use “Putting the air conditioner away” they don’t make sense in that order… Much like @dexter getting it down below 74 is still a dream away.

Mom and her husband are going to be in town this weekend, and we are going to Napa to visit my cousin. My cousin who live all of about 20 minutes away and whom I really like, but see maybe, Maybe once a year. In any case, she has a lovely 7yo daughter who is a treat. So that will be nice.

The wife has multiple job interviews next week, so much quiet outside the familial activities (which she will miss, due to prep time)Report

Moving furniture. In-laws are downsizing their house, and so are getting rid of a lot of furniture they’ll no longer have room for.

Solid wood, often antique, furniture. So we’re happily swapping out a lot of cheap stuff for antiques. It does involve a lot of frantic cleaning and moving.

Today I’m cleaning out my desk and replacing it with a nicer one. Which does require moving two large, heavy desks.Report

Just finished cleaning the desk. How did I fill four garbage backs with junk from one tiny desk? That doesn’t include the large plastic tub of “stuff to transfer to new desk” and the stack of other “stuff to transfer to new desk”.

On the bright side, my desk is now so clean I kind of don’t want to swap. 🙂Report

We just wrapped up our first show last night, so my main plan for this weekend is to do a lot of R&R with zero responsibilities. My sister flew in from OK to see the inaugural show, so I’ll hang with her over the weekend, which is space awesome. But even that’s going to be incredibly low key.Report

I’m giving Linux another go! Kind of excited, though it’s already annoying me.

One of the downsides to fixing on getting single models (We had four T60’s, then four T520s) is that they all outdate at about the same time. So you go from having multiple acceptable computers to having none.

Linux helps, in this regard, as secondary machines. You can run with a pretty light footprint and all. And it’s running fast, but there are always… things. Specifically, the WiFi stops working sporadically.

The good news is that I *finally* fixed the network mapping issue. I thought it was a rights-issue on the server preventing me from copying files over to it. It turns out it was a local-rights issue preventing me from copying the file off the machine. I need to do a write-up because I’m sure I will run into this problem again.Report

I’m in Okinawa for the weekend. I don’t speak even one single word of Japanese, but I think I’ve figured out yen. I only discreetly spit one bite of food in to my napkin. It’s 90 degrees here all weekend and about 1000% humidity. By 9 am I already walked 5 miles. Gotta get that outdoor activity in early so I can nap in the afternoon air-conditioning.Report

There were FOUR friendly dogs at the set-up-the-cookout-the-night-before cookout tonight. FOUR. It was splendid.

Saturday I will be resting. Sunday I will mostly be resting. The first day of classes for students at my work is Monday.

And also at the cookout? IT WAS COLD. Like, I’ve been home for 30 minutes and I’m still cold. I have a warm fuzzy blanket and I’m still cold. HALLELUJAH.Report
