Ask and It Shall Be Answered
David Frum, at the conclusion of a Twitter essay 1 criticizing Donald Trump asks:
15) What kind of “conservative” sees arrangements that have worked so well, so long and says: “Let’s blow them up” ?

Anyone who’s being paying attention since 1980 knows the answer to that one: all of them.

Support meringue retaining walls! Without them, all over the world meringue running off of our lemon pies would be polluting our rivers and streams.Report
Yes, those “arrangements” have worked so well..for the people in power. That’s exactly the point in blowing it up.Report
1980? Is that the year before which everything supposedly “worked so well?”Report
I’m flummoxed as to what Mike Schilling fancied worked so well. The Office of Economic Opportunity? AFDC? Public housing? The penology and police procedure in vogue ca. 1970? Monetary policy as administered by Arthur Burns and G. William Miller? The price controls in the petroleum sector that George McGovern and James Abourezk were so intent on retaining? The Fairness Doctrine? Cartels and sundry mercantile controls in airlines and trucking? Jimmy Carter’s gamesmanship in Iran and Nicaragua? Pre-1984 Medicare reimbursement schedules? Pre-1984 actuarial principles re federal employee pensions?Report
