Weekend!
This was one of those weeks when I had my 40 hours by the end of Wednesday. Granted, that’s counting the holiday hours from Monday, but a couple of 12s spent researching an intermittent problem where the workarounds don’t make sense and this set of symptoms tell you that the problem is with the servers but that set of symptoms tell you that it obviously has to be with the clients can really speed your week along.
In any event, we solved it so I’m getting tomorrow off.
I fully intend to be spending it not thinking about work.
After that, this weekend will be spent doing the errands that absolutely and positively need to be hit prior to The Bowl That Is Super Weekend (I’ve no doubt that Costco will be jam packed with people getting the non-perishables tomorrow and I don’t even want to think about the cheese tray aisle next week) and getting ready for gaming on Saturday night but, otherwise, I hope to spend the weekend doing a handful of chores around the house and just being mostly sedentary.
So… what’s on your docket?

I have some milestone rituals to do for my therapy and they both take HOURS each so I will be spending the rest of the time cheerfully doing as little as possible and not feeling bad about it.
Once I get through working until 10 pm tomorrow that is. (I like working late, but it’s an adjustment any time I switch to a day schedule and then have to shift back.) Ah well, at least we don’t need to set the alarm tomorrow.Report
PS I am particularly excited that one of these rituals involves setting things ON FIRE which I daydream about while Jay lectures me about fire safety and I say “Yes, yes,” with a mad scientist gleam in my eye…Report
Well, today is my 44th, so yay? That said, the wife and I rented a small beach house for the weekend in Bodega Bay, so chilling and reading on the plate.Report
Happy birthday!Report
Happy birthday! Man, reading and chilling sounds so nice. I actually have to fly for work soon and though I am dreading the flight/trip itself, I am looking forward to the uninterrupted fiction-reading time on the plane.
Actually, that reminds me – I know you aren’t far from the Bay Area, and that’s where I’ll be. If you’d be interested in possibly getting a beer one evening, I can shoot you an e-mail.Report
Please do, I would love that!Report
Happy birthday!Report
Happy Birthday!
And why’s it called Bodega Bay, anyway? There ain’t a Bodega anywhere to be found on that beach.Report
The name is for the birds.Report
Grandma is coming for a visit, which is nice since the wife & I are low on nice, sane grandparents & parents willing to travel.Report
I am going to see Indian Ink by Tom Stoppard at the American Conservatory Theatre.Report
Cool. I saw Travesties there, years and years ago.Report
I saw Arcadia there a year or two ago. I think ACT is one of the more hit or miss theatres in the Bay Area. They also have the biggest budget (go figure). I know local theatre artists dislike Carey Perloff because they don’t think she does enough for local artists and playwrights.
I think I’ve liked half the plays I’ve seen at A.C.T. Shotgun and Berkeley Rep (both in Berkeley) are probably my favorite Bay Area theatres. I still need to check out Marin Rep in Mill Valley.Report
I saw an absolutely atrocious Caucasian Chalk Circle by Brecht at A.C.T when I was in law school.
*Brecht is very hard to do well and surprisingly easy to take his ideas and do them poorly. I think the only successful Brecht performances I have seen were Mother Courage with Meryl Streep and Austin Pendleton and Kevin Kline and a Caucasian Chalk Circle done by my college drama department.Report
Marin Shakespeare is worth checking out too. But (and I speak from long experience) when you buy the tickets, give them a fake e-mail address,Report
Big hunting day tomorrow morning. The goose population in Central Kentucky has surged in the last week. This will make or break our season. Fights on tomorrow night. Other than that – a wide open weekend.Report
I don’t really get the math on that. How many holiday hours did you work on Monday?Report
I think I get it now. 8 holiday plus 8 actually worked? That’s cool. I wish I ever had a job where I could have worked on a holiday I didn’t particularly want off and banked a day.Report
