Baier: Damn, he tried to interrupt her a lot. I liked that he pressed her on several points and make clear to viewers where she was dodging his questions. And she did dodge several questions.

Harris: the election is all vibes to low information voters now, and the vibes to that interview were she stood up to him and held her ground. She looked and sounded Presidential, tough, strong. The low information voter will not discern whether she dodged questions or answered them: such a person will hear assertiveness and probably like it.Report

I think her audience was twofold.

Audience one is the broader media. No one can say any longer that she is too afraid or unpolished to go into an unfriendly environment.

Audience two is any of those Haley voters looking for permission not to vote for Trump. I have no idea how she came off to them, but at minimum I saw no obvious gaffes and while she didn’t hit any grand slams or anything she operated at the level of a normal politician in these formats.

Who knows if it means anything for the election but I’d say it went successfully, as far as its aims were concerned.Report

The thing is, a lot of the criticism of Harris has been “she’s not able to talk“. And maybe internets who only interact through a keyboard and quaintly think that they’re good at Theory Of Mind because they can imagine a person talking figure that shouldn’t matter, but it does matter. And in that interview she directly addressed this criticism.Report

He has no respect for a successful, articulate black woman. An she is getting better at actually answering questions, even if all the answers were redirections.Report

LOL: Fox News interviewed Bret Baier to ask him what HE thought of the interview. Guess what his opinion is.

Having reviewed it I think she did herself no significant harm and potentially some good. We also can now bury and retire the nonsensical notion that Harris avoids challenging media encounters.Report

Looking forward to the conspiracy-theory dudes telling us how Fox News was paid off by the Democrats to let this interview go the way it did.Report
