Weekend Plans Post: Making a Frozen Pizza into Something Almost not Depressing
There are the circumstances under which you want to make a truly decadent pizza. Maybe you even go out of your way to get a pizza stone and make an even better one.
But, you know, sometimes you just don’t want to put a whole lot of effort in. I mean, you want to put *SOME*. This is food, after all. You’re going to be eating it.
But you’re not so bad off to be in a “just get some of the Stouffer’s French Bread Pizzas and throw them in there” mood. You’re better off than that, if only barely.
Well, for that, I recommend getting a frozen pizza and treating it as if it were a pre-made crust and then turn it into a stuffed pizza. Behold.
Get your ingredients together:
Here’s a somewhat better look:
The Screamin’ Sicilian “Bessie’s Revenge” cheese pizza is the base. Then pepperoni, bacon, onions, peppers, jalapeño peppers, sliced mushrooms (canned), Italian cheese blend, and pizza spices.
Begin by turning on the broiler. You want to get the pizza stone nice and hot while you’re doing this.
Next thing: Bust out your pizza and begin by putting some of the Italian spices from your Italian Spice Grinder on it.
That’s the base. Then apply toppings to taste:
Once everything is on the pizza, sprinkle the cheese on it and then apply a few more of the spices:
Then it’s ready for the stone. The box says 16-18 minutes at 425. We’re not going to do that. We are, instead, going to do 25 minutes at 400. Turn the oven to 400 and put it in there:
25 minutes later:
Here, let’s look at it up close:
Get it on your rack and apply parmesan and red pepper flake and let it sit and cool for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, it’s ready to be cut into sixths and you’ve got yourself 3 meals. And, seriously, look at this after the first cut:
It was pretty good. I don’t want to say that it wasn’t depressing at all… I mean, it’s a frozen pizza. But it was still pretty dang good.
This weekend is Memorial Day weekend! The first of the three gates of summer. I will wander through it doing very little. Laundry, groceries, the usual. Maribou is visiting her bestie in Seattle (hence the frozen pizza) and so there’s an opportunity for mischief such as “seeing a movie” but, to be honest, I will probably not. Get a jog in, maybe go to the gym, explore the joys of a new computer game… but mostly enjoy a three-dayer.
So… what’s on your docket?
(Featured image is Pike’s Peak about a week after it got nailed by the snowstorm that dumped almost a foot on my deck. Photo taken by the author.)
I crammed all my hours in M-Th so this weekend is a four-dayer for me. I’m going to go for a run here as soon as my ear buds are charged (Skullcandy Sesh…love Skullcandy’s stuff for the quality you get at their price point, but these Sesh ear buds are irritating in how I have to shepherd them to make sure they’ve got at least a 70% charge so they’ll last for an entire run). Going to see Top Gun tomorrow morning, followed by the Champions League final.
I’m getting kind of bored with Banished so I need to find another game to play. I downloaded the expansion for Gloomhaven so maybe I’ll fire that up. Otherwise, it’s reading, catching up on some telly, and maybe talking K into going out for dinner tonight.
Pizza looks great, btw. How was the crust?Report
Screamin’ Sicilian is not the best frozen pizza on the market. In my opinion, that’d be the various Wild Mike’s pizzas. Wild Mike’s has *AMAZING* crust (and the sausage pizza allows for all of the above ingredients *PLUS* sausage!).
However, Screamin’ Sicilian is the best frozen pizza available at King Sooper’s.
The reason to get it is the cheese rather than the crust. The crust is merely okay. But that’s better than “bad”.Report
Covid derailed my massive Thanksgiving guest list with the result being I only fried one turkey and I ended up with an extra jug of peanut oil. Since the oil will go bad before next year, and the weather now looks like it’s going to be good for tomorrow, I am having friends over and deep frying several chickens. It will he a nice change up from grilling and I am pumped to do it. Beyond that I’m hoping to get in a bike ride, and whatever relaxing my son is willing to permit me, which I doubt will be much.Report
“several”
Oh my gosh. I am envious. You should do a non-zero number of potatoes. Oooh! And Monte Cristos!Report
I’m not sure if I am properly equipped for the monte cristos but I definitely am for the potatoes.Report
All of the deep fry baskets I’m seeing are suitable only for industrial deep fryers.
Not that I’m against those.
But you’d think that they’d have one of those skimmers with a closable top that will keep a sandwich in place…Report
I going to have a go at building this (https://www.greenestreetjoinery.com/product/adirondack/15?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false) chair as a wedding present for a friend.Report
Middle Son has been ‘invited’ to Marine OCS training this summer… so we’re driving him to Quantico tomorrow. If he endures the training to the end, they will commission him upon his graduation from UVA next May.
Somewhat ominously his recruiting Captain told him: “Just remember, no one has figured out how to stop time, yet.”
He’s excited, but is a bundle of nerves right now.Report
