    https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/10/politics/hugh-hewitt-donald-trump-interview/index.html

(CNN)In an interview with Donald Trump earlier this week, conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt said something truly breathtaking.

“You know, Mr. President, you and I disagree about the election, but we agree on so much,” Hewitt told Trump, segueing into a conversation about China’s hypersonic missiles.

Talk about an other-than-that-how-was-the-play-Mrs. Lincoln moment!
That Hewitt uttered that line without irony is a telling window into how conservatives have found ways to rationalize Trump and his fundamentally anti-democratic attempts to undermine the faith of the American public in the 2020 election results.

Here’s the reality: You can’t just sort of yada yada the election rejection embraced by Trump. Because in refusing to accept the result of the 2020 election and repeatedly (and falsely) alleging voter fraud, Trump is actively working against everything that makes America, well, America.Report

I am somewhat cautious about this power point presentation, particularly in the case of published slides that allegedly come from it. I do not want this to turn into another Steel dossier.

Nevertheless, I fully endorse the notion that Trump is actively working in a way that makes him an enemy of America.Report

There are now two confirmed copies in the public sphere, with their attached meta data. That’s not impossible to forge mind you, but it would take a lot more work then these folks think they need to put in here. That Meadows turned it over without any hint of duress tells me he thinks its fine.Report

Do you have links? Google and Duck Duck Go failed me in an attempt to review the actual ppt.

In light of everything above and… well, everything… I’m generally suspicious when I see narrative running before evidence.

There’s a non-zero chance that the ppt outlines the 12th amendment and how it’s plugging holes from the 1800 election and those holes now have some holes.

When it comes to voting reform (which I’m favor of) I’m not generally in favor of reforms which require Constitutional Amendments (mostly for practical reasons, and because most of our electoral issues can be addressed with simple legislation)… that said, we have some vestigial tails in and around the States and Congress as electors for the Executive that probably need cleaning up.

Politically, I’d avoid pushing for some sort of national plebescite, but that doesn’t mean that the actual electoral process between states and congress can’t be cleaned up — ideally by statute.

I’d also be interested if any fellow OT folks who bothered to dissect the abandoned(?) Dem plan for Voting reform had a sane take on addressing the 12th? My recollection is that it did not… but I’ll admit to only cursory bullet point level surveys.Report

What I find interesting is the the reporting in the 1st link talks about the .ppt in the ‘third person’ as if it is this thing that isn’t knowable… but then there’s a link to the link and I have to ask… how do you as a New Journalist (TM) not click the clicks and screen cap the material?

Which part of this story do you doubt?

              That the PowerPoint exists?

That it outlines how to overthrow the election?

That people outside the President’s circle knew of it?

              That Lara Logan tweeted it?Report

              • Marchmaine in reply to Chip Daniels says:

I’d like to validate that it is what the narrative people are pushing that “it outlines how to overthrow the election” vs. outlines how the certification process works a’la the 12th amendment and what happens if slates of delegates are contested… and what it means to contest a slate… and whether these slates might be, should be, or ought to be contested.

I’m just a simple sales guy… when I have a smoking gun ROI I shut up and let the customer read the ROI. When I’m selling soft benefits my throat gets dry from all the talking.Report

              • Chip Daniels in reply to Marchmaine says:

What no one is contesting, is that the Trump Administration was searching for ways in which they could invalidate the results of a free and fair election.

They knew the election was free and fair.
They just didn’t want to accept it.

                This is a simple fact.Report

There aren’t ever any jackbooted armies marching down the street.

The news item about the Powerpoint isn’t actually new- Lara Logan supposedly tweeted it on the day of the attempted coup.

Their accomplices are the self proclaimed moderates telling everyone to calm down and stop talking about it and anyway the Democrats are worse.

        Present company excluded, I hope.Report

      • Philip H in reply to DensityDuck says:

        Well lets’ start here:

Mark Meadows sent emails as early as November 7, 2020, about a plot for Republican-controlled states to send “alternate” slates of presidential electors to Congress on January 6 and texted a member of Congress about the idea, saying, “I love it,” the House select committee investigating the Capitol insurrection said.

Or this from Mitch McConnell in May:

“I think at the heart of this recommendation by the Democrats is that they would like to continue to debate things that occured in the past,” McConnell said. “They would to continue to litigate the former president into the future. We think the American people going forward, and in the fall of 2022, ought to focus on what this administration is doing to the country and what the clear choice is that we have made to oppose most of these initiatives.”

Or this from Forbes in May:

About half of Republican voters characterize the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as a “legitimate protest,” according to a new survey published Thursday, a finding that comes as a handful of GOP lawmakers continue to try and cast the riot in a more positive light.

        Or this:

Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., said federal law enforcement was “harassing peaceful patriots” as it searches through photographic evidence of those who might have committed crimes on that day.

Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., added: “It was Trump supporters who lost their lives that day, not Trump supporters who were taking the lives of others.”

And maybe most jaw-dropping of all was Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., who compared those who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6 to a “normal tourist visit.”

“There was an undisciplined mob. There were some rioters, and some who committed acts of vandalism,” Clyde said. “But let me be clear, there was no insurrection and to call it an insurrection in my opinion, is a bold-faced lie. Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol, and walk through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures, you know.”

I could keep going, but I suspect you don’t actually care.Report

Maybe they were hoping for counterprotesters, so as to have a Riechstag fire event which would justify a national security declaration.

But in any event, the fact that the entire affair was planned and participated in by Trumpists leaves them without any fig leaf.Report

  5. Philip H says:

I downloaded it through the Lara Logan Twitter. Its a legit PDF of a ppt. And its chock full of lies and misdirections about the Chinese, Venezuelans, and Dominion voting systems machines.

Slide 23 is pretty straight forward:

    Recommendations
    ● Brief Senators and Congressmen on foreign interference
    ● Declare National Security Emergency
    ● Foreign influence and control of electronic voting systems
    ● Declare electronic voting in all states invalid
    ● LEGAL & Genuine Paper ballot counts or Constitutional remedy
    delegated to Congress

    Two slides later:

Next Step – Count the Paper Ballots ▪ When you first disqualify all the counterfeit ballots and then count all the remaining
legal paper ballots nationwide, you restore confidence in the Election Outcome
    ▪ Regardless of the cheating and stuffing of the ballot box, by eliminating the counterfeit mail-in
and absentee ballots -> Trump Almost Certainly Wins
    ▪ Additionally, US Senators, US House Races, State, and Local races now turn to Republican
    ▪ This remedies the problem quickly and easily by:
    ▪ Eliminating counterfeit ballots and subtracting them from current totals to see if races change, or
    ▪ Recounting remaining, legal ballots by hand to see who wins races.
    ▪ Either way, we quickly and easily find out who the elected leaders REALLY ARE and restore confidence in
    the outcome!
    ▪ The electronic voting machines are shifting votes from Trump to Biden
    ▪ The election fraud perpetrated used the major brands of machines Dominion and ES&S
    ▪ The foreign actors had to shift votes across the country in all areas in order to achieve
    their objectives (Biden Victory)
    ▪ They had to shift votes in traditionally Republican strongholds in order to deliver a Biden win
because they could jam no more into the major cities (fraud votes)

    Then Slide 31:

    Restoring Confidence in the
    2020 General Election
    ▪ “Clear the air – count and compare”
    ▪ The tabulators cannot be trusted nationwide, and many counterfeit ballots have been inserted, therefore:
    ▪ A full check to weed out counterfeit paper ballots and then a count of the remaining legal ones across the nation must be done
for all races in all states and will accurately determine who the people of America actually elected as our leaders.
    ▪ All ballots must remain locked and physically protected until directed by the federal government.
    ▪ A task force led by a trustworthy individual (we recommend Sid Gutierrez: NASA Astronaut, retired Air Force Colonel, Center
Director at a National Laboratory) produce a standard procedure that will be required and will include full accountability so
that counterfeit ballots are excluded and legal ballots are not lost, modified, substituted, or added in.
    ▪ We estimate counting can be done in each state in 5 to 10 days time with support from identified national assets.
    ▪ It must be done in full public view (via web broadcast) where each person has the chance to do the count themselves if they so
desire. No more hiding behind barriers, distances, secrecy, and gag orders.
    ▪ We have the technology to do this.
    ▪ The paper ballots are secret ballots which means you cannot tell who voted it.
    ▪ Counterfeit ballots can easily and quickly be identified using technology similar to that used by Treasury to find counterfeit currency. Illegal paper stock,
ballots filled out by a machine, mail-in ballots that never went through the mail, ballots printed and marked with the same ink can all be identified and
    rejected.
    ▪ Every legal paper ballot will have a camera pointed at it and will be captured for a few seconds.
    ▪ It will be recorded and be broadcast in real time on the Internet.

    Next slide:

    Count-the-Ballots Top Level Plan
    ▪ A Trusted Lead Counter will be appointed with authority from the POTUS to direct the actions of select
federalized National Guard units and support from DOJ, DHS and other US government agencies as needed
to complete a recount of the legal paper ballots for the federal elections in all 50 states.
    ▪ US Marshals will immediately secure all ballots and provide a protective perimeter around the locations in
    all 50 states.
    ▪ DHS will use their emergency response logistic capabilities to support the effort. They will integrate the IT
support that will include separating out the legal from the counterfeit ballots and communications with all
supporting the effort and cameras (Possibly cell phones) imaging each and every ballot. These images will
    be distributed to the Internet.
    ▪ The federalized National Guard in each state will be supplied detailed processes and be responsible for
counting each legitimate paper ballot. Teams made up of three (first couple counties will be five) National
Guard members will do the counting. As the counting occurs each ballot will be imaged and the images
placed on the Internet so any US citizen can view them and count the ballots themselves. The process will be
    completely transparent.

    and the end:

    Options for 6 JAN
VP Pence seats Republican Electors over the objections of Democrats in states
    where fraud occurred
VP Pence rejects the electors from States where fraud occurred causing the
election to be decided by remaining electoral votes
VP Pence delays the decision in order to allow for a vetting and subsequent
counting of the all the legal paper ballots

Now, this COULD be a massive misdirection. A gigantic “Own the Libs” play. But if Logan had this 5 January then so did others. And given that its built on demonstrable lies, the conclusion that it was something resembling a coup plan – given its admitted origins – is hard to ignore.Report

    • Philip H in reply to Philip H says:

and here’s an amusing anecdote – given the number of republicans who were elected below Biden they would really have had a tough time tossing mail in ballots and maintaining their hold on lots of offices.Report
