Is the article on cutting corners the one you wanted to link to? The article seems to me about how Japanese construction is somewhat *better* now in quality and durabilty than historical averages, and they’re razing down mostly good enough buildings, because that’s the way they’ve always done things.
The article on Modi is interesting, but it written by a person that’s always been a fan of Modi and had mostly the same political preferences. (And the authors bio is basically – I’m one of the few bastions remaining in a world dominated by the Liberal Media)Report

The New Yorker article doesn’t make Ike look all that good – or it takes out of context his statements. A guy that was against nuclear weapons in 1948, then against them in 1961, but then presides over the largest buildup of them in human history – is not a good look.
Otoh, the author sorta turns inside out Curtis LeMay’s strategic vision and yada yadas the revolt of the admirals in the dynamic between post war defense budgets and nuclear weapons procurement & policy, so Ike might be misinterpreted here as well.Report
It’s Game Theory. Eisenhower was well aware of what nuclear weapons meant, but also understood the logic that required them to be held by any nation that wanted to maintain its autonomy.
Like, “do what I say or I’ll nuke you”. What’s the response to that, in a world where you can’t stop them nuking you?Report

The young woman in question was apparently an ex-girlfriend.
Mainak Sarkar had a kill list and she was on it, as were two professors. He was only able to find one of the two professors.
There are narratives to be wielded here but it’ll be a tightrope. There’s a lot of noise out there with some of the noise saying that Sarkar is a Hindu (as opposed to Muslim) name and other bits of noise saying that Sarkar himself converted to Islam.
