Weekend!
We’ve had to deal with the indignity of Daylight Saving Time and we’ve passed the First Day of Spring (or of Autumn, I guess, if you’re down under the equator) and we now, officially, get to start thinking about Spring Kinda Stuff.
Those of you who are not Canadian will be surprised to hear that it was 24 degrees today in Colorado Springs.
Spring Break for those of you who are somewhat adjacent to academia. Swapping out the flannel sheets for the cotton ones. Swapping out the hoodies for the windbreakers. Putting the football and hockey jerseys in the back of the closet and bringing forward the baseball jerseys and short-sleeved workshirts. Opening the window for the cross breeze (until we can no longer stand it and swap the window for the AC floor unit).
Modern Life has allowed us to no longer have “spring foods” and “autumn foods”. We can have fresh berries no matter what month it is (or pumpkin pie, for that matter) but I still have some leftover excitement from my childhood when I think that strawberries are going to be in season soon.
And opening day is the 5th.
But, this weekend, will probably be devoted to one of the alpha versions of Spring Cleaning. Maybe not Spring Cleaning *PROPER*, but there’s stuff you have to clean up before you can really start cleaning up and there’s prep you have to make before you can really clean that stuff up so, this weekend, will be devoted to doing that.
And hoping that, maybe, we can get one last, final, chilly weekend where hoodies are appropriate before they go into the storage bag and are banished until October.
So… what’s on your docket?

I’m heading off for my annual spring camping trip this weekend. Well, it was supposed to be camping. Mother Nature dumped 8 inches of snow on us Tuesday night and after a couple of days of beautiful sunshine, the snow is gone, but rain will follow. With thunder & lightning also promised, we opted to rent a cabin for a couple of days. The guys and I will still watch basketball and cook some steaks, but I might also hook up my Super Nintendo and it will be nice to sleep in a real bed instead of a cot.
We have a new puppy joining the family one week from Saturday and then a week off to bond with the little guy. We’ve done all the prep we can and are counting the days until he comes home with us.Report
Congrats on the new member of the family!
Show us some baby pictures.Report
I’m so glad to have a weekend with almost nothing going on. It was going to be NOTHING going on, but, er, @jaybird, I just accepted an invitation from N&P to hang out with A&S on Saturday.
Figured that was a big yes, life stuff notwithstanding.
LMK if not OK.
Mostly I just want to catch up on my TV shows, this weekend, if I’m to be entirely honest about my goals. But I’m looking forward to doing some of the putting together and setting up of the stuff, too. I got a rolly cart! 3 shelves, wheels. I think it may revolutionize my tidying process. If not, hey, I still have a rolly cart of my very own. #lifegoalsReport
Time to feed the mead.
Got a porter to bottle. Good stuff. A delicate balance of some really bold flavors.
Was going to watch a movie on youtube, but it’s been taken down now.
Questioning this whole anti-materialism thing again.Report
My band is playing the local watering hole tonight. If you want to hear me belt out a tune or three (that’s all I do since I’m the least talented singer in the band) head to Chicago.
Saturday I’ll be watching my alma mater’s improbable advance to the Elite 8.
Sunday is dinner with the in-laws.Report
Fledermaus and the kids are in Mexico with Mr T’s mom and the 5-8 year old cousins. They snorkeled in a cenote yesterday. It all sounds lovely.
That means a quiet weekend for Mr T and me. I hope to have my nose in a book for a lot of it. Mr T had been playing a lot of music, as he hasn’t had time to do lately.
We’ve got a dump run to do – not spring cleaning per se, but dealing with construction debris from the tub replacement. Probably a few other things I’m not thinking of right now.Report
Frantically trying to clean the house or at least un-bury my stepson’s bedroom he will be here for spring break starting Saturday. The reason why we have to dig out his room is we have started what is basically a whole house rearrangement.
Eldest daughter had her bedroom in the part of the garage that had been (previous to us buying the house) converted into living space in the house. She has moved out with her girlfriend so hubby and I have been cleaning out all the stuff she doesn’t want anymore with several trips to goodwill and selling stuff on Craigs list …any one need 6 aquariums? My textile conservation studio will move from the third bedroom to this 14′ x 24′ space after we paint the black walls a lighter color. Kids bedroom will move to vacated 3rd bedroom. Both our home office desks will move from our bedroom to kids room with a day bed. Then two built in closets will be added to our bedroom.
Going to pour rain for most of the week so in good step-monster fashion my son will be conscripted for moving stuff and painting the studio in between movies, video games and D&D with the cousins.Report
Wake, one of husbands uncles passed away. Husband can just barely stand his family so all I have to do is be quiet and sympathetic secure in the knowledge that my beloved will get us outta there are soon as is socially possible (possibly sooner but it’ll be on him if so).Report
I watched The Shape of Water and, well, we need a new euphemism for “fuck”.Report
