      1. My college professor used that article to indicate that for all that we today think of Eisenhower as being intelligent (being a successful general and all that), he was actually a dimwit who spoke and thought like a hick. (Also in evidence was Eisenhower’s troubles at Columbia.)Report

        1. I’ve read his memoires, and I don’t agree, unless you want to contend that it was ghostwritted. (Which I doubt, if only because a ghostwriter would have been more concise rather than filling two large volumes and spending all of a chapter justifying his cabinet choices.) While not a particularly artistic writer, he came across as intelligent and thoughtful (and did not write like “a hick”). And I say this despite my fervent disagreement with several of his actions as president.Report
