Heavenly!
I has no fixed idea for this week’s selection, then on the way home from work I caught the end of this and wanted to hear it all the way through. It’s Bach, of course: a concerto for the oboe d’amore, which is slightly lower-pitched than the standard oboe, giving it a fuller, mellower tone. This is reconstructed from a hypothetical original; the version we know about for sure is a harpsichord concerto.
All the music from the this series can be found and enjoyed here.
Having been an oboist in my youth, I’ll remark that it takes a somewhat peculiar mental outlook to be one.Report
