Weekend Plans Post: Situation is Normal
Whenever Maribou goes on vacation, there’s always a golden period where it’s fun, a copper period where it’s merely going on, and a leaden period where it just sucks.
The length of each usually depends on when she leaves. If she leaves on a Thursday or Friday, hey. It’s party time. Maybe go see something at the movies, maybe stay up too late playing vidja games, DEFINITELY make some pepper bacon.
If she leaves on a Monday or Tuesday… meh. The golden window has closed by Friday. Saturday and Sunday is just another day to do chores.
The leaden period is usually the 2-3 days before she gets home. Sunday night, for example, I stopped sleeping. I mean, not entirely… I just slept fitfully and when the cats had their 4AM Wrestlemania tryouts, well, there was no going back to sleep. And Monday night. And Tuesday night.
Wednesday night, she was scheduled to return and, jeez, she came in around 9ish. The kitties and I agreed that it was great to have her back, and I fell asleep at 10.
AND SLEPT UNTIL 7:30. (Well, there was one moment around 4AM when they woke her up with the Wrestlemania tryouts and she woke me up laughing. But that was very, very nice and it was soooo easy to fall back asleep.)
Oh my gosh. It is sooooo good to have her back.
This weekend will be a weekend where she is back. Which means cooking differently (no more making pepper bacon, glad I still have 3 pounds left). It means shopping differently (cooking for one and cooking for two is SOOOOOOOOOO different). And, yes, gaming differently. Saturday night is gaming night and it looks like everybody will be there. That will be very nice indeed. Back to the Cult of the Dragon.
And sleeping. Sleeping all night.
So… what’s on your docket?

Mostly normal weekend for me as well. We were away last weekend, which was nice.
We finally got ourselves an FDM 3D printer. Nothing too fancy or expensive, but if we use it a lot we could upgrade in the future. I could also see ourselves getting a resin printer. I have dabbled with it a little during the week, but I have a few larger projects I look forward to trying my hand at while I have more time. One of the main things I want to use it for is upgrading board games, replacing cardboard tokens with nicer looking plastic pieces and making better organizers especially. I think my wife just wants to print little figurines and paint them. Right now, I am just using existing files that I can get online, but I might try my hand at making my own when I get a better feel for things.Report
Week 2 of using a Mac at work and can confirm that the business user experience is pretty bad. In fairness(?) I think the badness is compounded by the company *also* using Gmail for corporate mail which just creates a mess of browser-tabs and Mac is really bad at working with multiple ‘windows’ of the same app — or just multiple windows.
I’ve been furiously clicking settings trying to get rational behavior out of the laptop… but all it seems to do is launch the Music app every third day – desperately hoping it can assuage it’s failures by distracting me with music. Trying its best, I guess.
The command vs. control button hasn’t been an issue at all, it’s Apple’s design decisions on how it thinks I want to interact with Apps. In a nutshell, it behaves like a phone and wants to single thread the display.
And seriously, building anything on Google is like building on sand… you shouldn’t do it… nothing is plumb… third-party integration is second-rate and desultory because everyone knows that eventually Google will abandon whatever it has built – so everything feels like your first apartment… keeps you dry at night but all you can do is think about getting a real place to live.
Good enough for artists and teachers, I suppose.

I’m sorry. I think you’ve hit on something with that phone observation.
My girlfriend is a dedicated Apple user and we love to poke fun at each other regarding the Apple/Android division.Report
heh, I love me some good ribbin’ when there’s an option to use a PC… but when forced to use Mac? My full ire.
Yeah, feels like an iPad with a mouse and physical keyboard.Report
The crazy thing is, if I’m not mistaken, MacOS is just Unix with a pretty front end. Trouble is, Apple made it so pretty, it’s darn near unusable.Report
Sadly, not everyone will be there, so no Cult bashing for us.Report
