MSNBC Producer Leaves Company, Admits She Was Directed To Ignore Andrew Yang
In a thread from Andrew Yang in which he plugs his podcast, MSNBC Producer admits that she was directed to ignore Andrew Yang during the primaries.
Monday on https://t.co/COEsnkaeeO longtime MSNBC producer @arianapekary joins us to discuss her public departure from the network, the forces that shape cable news coverage, and what we can do to improve our trust in media. A lot of people are concerned about this. Thanks Ariana! pic.twitter.com/tZrMQwGYyB

Actually, I just reviewed my journal. On 4/25/19, I was told that we were never to pursue Andrew for an interview on our show (along with several others). The list of candidates was dictated, but the reasons for allowing them or not were not explained.

(Back in 2019, there was controversy over whether Andrew Yang’s mic was cut during the various debates that took place on MSNBC.)

Wannabe Kingmakers gotta make kings, I guess.
Perhaps media orgs should not be allowed to decide who to cover. The shut out Yang, and handed Trump so much free publicity…Report
…who should decide who they cover then?Report
All or nothing? Equal time? If you decide to give Biden an interview, you have to give all the other contenders the same consideration, etc.
Just spit-balling, honestly. Ideally I’d rather the media stop playing at being King-makers and just do some reporting.Report
I know some media outlets have such rules, but I believe that is when it gets down to the final two major party candidates. But how “real” does a candidate have to be to be considered as such? Does “The Rent Is Too Damn High” guy get an interview?Report
Same rules as who gets to be on the debate stage?Report
Did they have the same rule about Booker? That would explain a lot.Report
“Along with several others”
There’s certainly room.Report
