Songs!
This week’s prompt: “A song that makes you happy”.
When my kids were in high school, they used to listen to what passed for pop music back around 2010. Most of it sounded the same: derivative, over-produced to within an inch of its life, not even managing to do the most basic job of music for young people, that is, to piss parents off. So I took note of the rare ones were actually good. Like this one: fresh, clever, and filled with joy.

Don’t hear it on the radio too often, but it never fails to bring out a smile.

A neighbor of mine has, after 30 years, finished his hot rod Lincoln. Open front wheels, open engine, dayglow orange paint job, chrome everything. He takes it out and putters around town on sunny days. Everyone who has lived in the neighborhood long enough smiles when he goes by, because we’ve all been out for evening walks and seen him working on it under his garage lights with the doors open.Report

I really thought a lot about this one and while there are so many good options, I think this is the one that is most guaranteed to make me smile. And I like the Tuskeegee version the best.

Also, honorable mention. This is the last one I remember being really into with the youngest daughter when she was still living at home.

Bug loves this one (and I admit I do too).Report
It is so catchy, and IMO such a respectful and fun homage to the 80s. I can totally picture this one getting played at the skating rink, which is sort of my litmus test for all 80s pop.Report
