This was an amazing essay, Dennis.

I’m glad you got your shot.

This last year really sucked. One of the big things I’ve noticed is that the pandemic’s damage was K-shaped all over.

Some people lost their jobs, their small businesses, everything. I’m not surprised to hear that small churches took a huge hit.

Other people managed to parlay this into an opportunity. There are jobs where 95% of it can be done from home and there are quite a few people who were able to take this crisis and surf the wave rather than go under.

One of the best things that small churches do that other churches are less able to do is provide a tight-knit community where there are members who know the names of all of the other members. Go week after week, see the same faces, these are your brethren and sistren. If you can’t go and sit together, that doesn’t work.

I hope that we can all get our shots and bounce back soon. Let’s get everybody to be part of the Feoh-shaped recovery.Report

I feel like this is a good image:
Apocalypse comes from the Greek, apokálypsis, which means an uncovering. So when I talk about the pandemic as being apocalyptic, I mean it was revealing. An apocalypse reveals what has been hidden before
I think there will be a delay- things won’t all change at once. I think we’re still processing the events of the last year. Personally, I’m still getting over COVID, so my thoughts are a little jumbled. But, I know my own priorities have shifted. I think others have too, but change takes more time than beating a pandemic.
    Thanks for posting this.Report
