Thanksgiving Songs for when you might not be feeling that Thankful.
Back in 2014, I posted a post that referenced these two songs. I’d like to remember Thanksgiving 2014 as we sit down to 2020 without a whole lot of discussions about much of anything else… even though neither song has aged particularly well but… well, there aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs.
I know that you aren’t able to spend time with family that isn’t already in your bubble and that you’re missing your loved ones and that you’re wishing that you weren’t here refreshing your webpages. Well, know this: I am thankful for you. I’m not spending time doing Thanksgiving stuff with my family like I’ve been doing since 1999. But I’m spending it here with you. Maybe I’m eating leftover pizza. Maybe you’re eating leftover pizza. Maybe we’re all eating leftover pizza together.
As such, I’m pleased that we’re eating leftover pizza together. From me and mine to you and yours: Happy Thanksgiving. I’m pleased that we’re all here together eating leftover pizza (or whatever) and, you know what? Next year is going to be awesome. It’s going to be *AWESOME*. This year, though, I’m pleased to be spending it with you.
Happy Thanksgiving.
In the meantime, please enjoy these two semi-traditional Thanksgiving day songs (both, of course, share content warnings for potentially offensive content):
Dan Bern’s Thanksgiving Day Parade:
Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant:
Hey! Do you have any particularly Thanksgiving Day thoughts or wishes or memories? Share them here! We can read your comments and be thankful for your experiences with you RIGHT NOW. And we can all be thankful together.
Happy Thanksgiving!
We rarely let a Thanksgiving pass without my husband playing Alice’s Restaurant at least once.
I actually did a whole post about Thanksgiving songs a couple years ago, it’s here: https://ordinary-times.com/2018/11/22/songs-of-food-and-gratitude/
Hope everyone has a great day!Report
Not sure if autotuned speaking qualifies as a song, but here’s The Shat expounding on Deep. Fried. Turkey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4Qxqmhqj1A&feature=youtu.be
I dunno. Today my biggest memory is last year, where Thanksgiving was a couple days after my dad’s memorial service. Sorry. That’s about all I got. 2020’s not been a good year.Report
We’re eating a bit later this year to accomodate oldest boy’s night shift job, so the turkey is in the oven right now. The turkey is ENORMOUS and there are only five of us, so we’ll be joyously eating leftovers for days.
Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!Report
