Saturday Morning Gaming: Crash Pandas
One of the big problems with having a gaming group with more than one person in it is the whole “getting everybody together at the same time” thing. With every additional person, it gets tougher and tougher for everybody to show up at once. The sweet spot is probably around four or five people. You can probably get four or five people to all show up around 75% of the time. More than that, you’re going to need games for when somebody is away on a trip or sick or the kids have a play or something like that.
We’ve got this one lined up for tonight. It’s a one-shot called “Crash Pandas” (download the pdf for free!).
Here’s the basic idea (from the page itself):
You’re a raccoon and you’re involved in the dangerous world of illegal LA street racing. Except: you can’t drive a car on your own, so you need to team up to do it. But no conferring.
Your raccoon has a backstory and a rival and all of that and you are part of a team of raccoons that also have backstories. For any given thing you have to do, you do it without talking to your teammates about what you’re going to do beforehand. Turn the car, maybe. Speed up, maybe. Use the lead pipe you happen to have, maybe. And go on to win the race. Maybe.
It’s not a “we need to play this every week!” game, but it’s a good game for when your gaming group gets together and someone on the team, for whatever reason, can’t show up.
So… what are you playing?

I used to feed raccoons every evening. They love almost all human food: fruits, vegetables, hamburgers, burritos, potato chips, milk duds, you name it. Omnivores rule.Report
Also almost all pet food. When we used to leave food out for the cat it mostly fed the raccoons.Report
Here is the background story I wrote for my raccoon:
“My raccoon’s name is Shenji. I was recruited by my father to the shadowy organization Nerv to pilot a vehicle called a “car” into races with alien beings called “Humans”. After a falling out with fellow raccoons Rei and Asuka, I have concluded that I need others to thrive. Thus my membership in the team.”Report
The game was so g-darn good that talking about what happened will be next week’s post.Report
Recommended vaccinations for raccoons
Make sure you and your teammates are up to date on those!Report
