Weekend!

Jaybird

Jaybird is Birdmojo on Xbox Live and Jaybirdmojo on Playstation's network. He's been playing consoles since the Atari 2600 and it was Zork that taught him how to touch-type. If you've got a song for Wednesday, a commercial for Saturday, a recommendation for Tuesday, an essay for Monday, or, heck, just a handful a questions, fire off an email to AskJaybird-at-gmail.com

Gonna go see Deadpool with some friends tonight. Will report back with thoughts afterward or perhaps tomorrow, depending on how intoxicated I am by the end of the night.Report

Deadpool was a blast of a movie. It was the only superhero comic I ever read as a kid (a friend had all the collected editions and he’d bring ’em over for sleepovers), so Deadpool is the only comic book “hero” I have any real nostalgia for. I have to say, that movie was exactly the movie that 17-year-old Zac always wanted. I did find it interesting that it a weird way it was almost structured as a date movie: I just figured beforehand that it being released on Valentine’s Day weekend was just a coincidence, but now it’s clear to me that was highly intentional.Report

My parents and my brother are visiting this week. My Dad and I are going to install a new toilet in the freshly-remodeled bathroom. I’m hoping to be done before the Kansas-Oklahoma game because the last two times I was doing plumbing work during a Kansas game, they lost. And we all know that magic is real.Report

It’s okay that Jaybird screwed up Lent ’cause I did too. But we are a united front of good behavior from this point on! Or something.

My weekend will be a lot like Jaybird’s, only with more chores and less studying.Report

Woo! Went out for a 9 mile run and hit 9.5 miles, withe last several miles including some unexpected hills. But I tackled them hard, finished fast, and am now ahead of schedule for my half training. Wahoo! I’m feeling pumped so may take the boys out for dinner, food shopping (to get the errands done), and then watch a movie.

Tomorrow, I hope to take the boys to meet their cockroach at the Bronx Zoo. See, my sister “sponsored” a Madagascar hissing cockroach in their name. For Valentines Day. She wonders why she’s single? Anyway, the cockroaches are indoors but temps will be in the teens and parking is far from the building so we’ll have to see if it is worth the hike. Then in the afternoon we are going to the “Frozen” singalong across the street at the library.

On Sunday, we’ll visit my sister’s boss’s private ice skating rink (he’s literally a kajillionaire). It will be Mayo’s first time on skates. Little Marcus Allen will probably just get slid around on his butt. Then we’ll try to meet up with a dear friend and her daughter.

Monday brings haircuts for the boys (LMA’s first and Mayo loses his disgusting rat tail). Then probably a funtivity of some kind or another in the afternoon.

I’ll sprinkle in the gym (thank goodness for onsite daycare!) when possible.Report

Man, I still can’t push past a quarter mile at a time. I do two miles in about 25 minutes right now, but there’s like a wall where my shin muscles (especially) go “Nope. Cramp time”.

Oh well. I still actually do the distance.Report

Have you tried bicycling @morat20 ? Much easier on the shins (less impact), might help.Report

        • Strapped mine on today and over-indulged. Nothing worse than wet spots on the paved trails — you’d never know it snowed 16 inches ten days ago. Kids with baseballs in the parks. Young joggers of all genders back in t-shirts and shorts. Another set of apartments and a small hotel started within a few blocks of where the light-rail station will be in my suburb. Huge set of townhouses going up near where the NW Denver station will be.

It’s supposed to be 70 °F by the middle of the week.Report

It’s conditioning, I think. Shin aches don’t last once I stop moving, and they stretch out — they just tighten.

A bit more warm-up, and maybe some focused exercises to strengthen them.Report
