Weekend!
That’s the song I listen to every year around this time. There just aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs, now that I think about it. Alice’s Restaurant has not aged particularly well and while there’s no shortage of songs with “thank you” in the title, there just aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs. There’s Dan Bern, there’s the Johnny Cash song that he sang on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman…
There’s that dang Adam Sandler one, of course. I won’t link to it.
In any case, it’s always good to spend this weekend counting one’s blessings and doing what one can to live one’s life in a state of non-directed gratitude. Or, I suppose, in directed gratitude if one is so inclined.
So that’s what we’re doing this weekend.
In addition to that, we’re flying down to Tampa to visit my dear uncles who have FINALLY gotten married. I didn’t want to be the nephew who asked “So when are you guys getting married?” when Obergefell was decided but we found out that they had a small ceremony a couple of months ago and just didn’t tell anybody because they’ve been together since the early 70’s (if not late 60’s) and this event was much more of a legal affair than a romantic one… but, still. I want to go down there and congratulate both of them on their recent nuptials.
As such, we’re spending Thanksgiving on a plane, Black Friday with relatives, Small Business Saturday on a plane, and Sunday wondering “WHAT IN THE HECK HAPPENED TO OUR FOUR DAY WEEKEND???”
So.. what’s on your docket?

Jaybird will be spending Sunday wondering that. I, on the other hand, cleverly took Monday off from work. And I will be enjoying a grand total of 7 consecutive days off work.
There’s some family stuff going on and whatnot, that makes it less than gleeful as vacations go, but none of that is too bad, and I’ll be seeing the ocean at some point on this trip, and I should have lots of relaxing time as well, so – I’m feeling pretty good about life.Report

It used to be even funnier?Report

The wife and I will be having a very quiet day, just the two of us. In fact, she isn’t sure she wants to cook to day (she is the one who actually likes cooking, instead of doing it because he is a cheap bastard) so we might do the feasting tomorrow instead. Which is cool. She is at the apex of a very serious work project and it looks like she will be doing things Sunday with that, so…
Oh and in honor of the holiday, I started rereading The Plague.Report
No Thanksgiving for us, having done that in October. Any notion of harvest was finished some time ago (it’s for sure too late here, our garden being under about 10 cm of snow right now).
Friday is Fledermaus’s birthday party. Which I guess means tonight we’re doing a lot of cooking and cleaning. Saturday Mr. T is playing a gig. Apparently it’s kind of a big deal to get a Saturday booking at this particular bar.
Mr. T’s mom is visiting us for both the party and the show – always lovely to see her.Report
October is a SANE time for a harvest holiday.
Thanksgiving is really so late that everything’s been harvested already…Report
In Canada it certainly is, anyway…Report
Agreed. November is not a thankful month. November is a cold, gloomy month.
I’m glad we do Thanksgiving in October.Report
There may not be any great Thanksgiving song, but there is an iconic Thanksgiving TV show:

Having yesterday off was awesome. I got all of my Saturday cleaning and visiting local family done two days early! I also ate until I thought I’d puke. That was kind of awesome! Now I will continue my weight loss journey. For serious this time.
I work today, which is why I didn’t go out of state for Thanksgiving, but this weekend I’m going to have so much time on my hands. The roommate and I are probably going to go to the Oregon coast or Bend, OR for the weekend. Also, I need to book my trip to Japan and finish my medical records for the surrogacy agency. I want to complete my trip before I’m pregnant.Report
Brewing for the new year! Brewing green apple cider today and chocolate stout tomorrow; racking cranberry stout into secondary to be ready on Christmas; finishing a pineapple pale for consumption and distribution next week.Report
