On “The Seventh Annual Mindless Diversions Unsolicited Shopping Guide

The links in the "One disadvantage" paragraph are broken.

On “Linky Friday: Suspicious Minds

Of his works, I've only read The Da Vinci Code, back when it was all the rage. I had played Gabriel Knight 3 before reading it, so was already familiar with the Priory of Scion conspiracy theory stuff, which I did find compelling. I thought the novel was boring, though. I can only imagine people conflated interest in the conspiracy stuff with finding the plot interesting.

I see it the complete opposite.

"and you'll see Venus move in and... put the [guerrilla/gorilla] effect on... charging"

Aggressively charging is a behavior of gorillas, not something guerrillas are known for.

On “This is the Lowest Point of Donald Trump’s Presidency

'So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since he took office, every single day of his administration has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see him, that's on the lowest point of his presidency.'

On “Linky Friday: It Bleeds, It Leads

First thing that came to mind when I heard this story was the time when an actor from The Langoliers once lost the starring role in a John Lennon biopic because of his name: Mark Chapman.

On “Reflecting on Kid Rock’s Presidency

I laughed at the idea of Stuart Smalley getting elected.

I laughed at the idea of Donald Trump getting elected.

I'm not laughing at the idea of Kid Rock getting elected.

On “Tuesday!

Yep, I loved that show.

I learned to start hating the Sci-Fi Channel when they messed with the order of Season 2.

"

I think Orbach stuck around a bit too long.

My favorite pairing was Green and Fontana which was near the end of the run.

Isn't that anti-NIMBY-ism? He would rather have too few zucchini gardens than too few houses.

On “Morning Ed: Politics {2017.07.13.Th}

A coworker of mine loves to joke about a guy that came into his local feed store wearing shorts and flip-flops.

This is not a left/right issue or even a upper/lower class issue. People love to feel superior to groups they don't belong to.

On “Tiny Houses

"Everybody hates a tourist, especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh."

However, I do understand the "voluntary minimalism" desire. For some people, the amount of stuff you have tends to expand to fill the available space. I moved from a house to an apartment a few years ago and had to get rid of a lot of stuff, yet still have boxes in the closet I haven't touched and more clutter than my wife is happy with.

On “Saturday!

It's a shame that those games are stuck in copyright purgatory. Yet another example of why the laws need to be reformed.

On “Linky Friday: Planet Justice

[F3] Perhaps something else is going on. The US has had a similar, but sharper, decline:

On “The Rise and Fall of Progressive Rock

At the risk of sparking an unresolvable discussion over definitions, I think prog rock influences live on various metal sub-genres, including the pretentiousness and musical excesses. Dream Theater is one of the better-known examples. Sure, they're niche, but it's a healthy niche.

On “Shouldn’t Need Saying

The same guy did the same thing a couple years ago and was assigned to a mental facility. His recent Facebook posts are full of rambling messages about him fulfilling prophecy and at least 1 threat to Bush Sr., Jr. and Obama.

But you're probably right, it's culture war stuff. But since he seems to be a very devote Christian, I'm not sure it's the side of the culture war everyone seems to assume it is.

I intended to have a link with that:

The man seems to have actual mental illness.

Also:

Reed was to have a monthly shot for his antipsychotic treatment, but it was $900 after insurance benefits were applied. He was able to get two shots but then could no longer pay.

On “Morning Ed: World {2017.06.26.M}

Is it possible that perhaps she's just a conspiracy nut and not representative of everyone else's views?

On “Linky Tuesday: The Planet

I feel like news outlets have really failed to embrace the full potential of the internet. They mostly just have traditional looking articles and video segments thrown on a webpage.

"

Ec2: Even though there's no chance of it being enacted, I'd like to see all income tax replaced with a carbon tax. Imagine if that happened and, in your household, you paid the exact same amount of tax. Except now instead of coming out of your paycheck, you're seeing it at the pump, the grocery store, etc. People would make drastic changes in their lifestyles.

But, yes, it would be regressive and a lot of care would have to be taken to ensure the poorest are able to meet basic needs and have a chance for upward mobility.

On “Saturday!

Thanks, I'll add it to my wishlist and keep an eye out during the Summer Sale. (I assume you meant X-Plane.)

"

Kerbal. Finally learned the main "trick" to space plane design (center of lift needs to be slightly behind center of gravity), thanks to Scott Manley's YouTube videos. I was also inspired to reread Oscar's aircraft engineering post. Now I kinda wish Kerbal had more focus on the engineering aspects, rather than mostly gluing parts together. But I realize there fun trumps realism, which all has to be balanced with what's achievable programatically and is able to be run on the audience's machines.

On “Morning Ed: War {2017.06.12.M}

W1 - One step closer to that Black Mirror episode.

W2 - In an actual global thermonuclear war, it may be better to live close to ground zero and have it be over quickly.

On “Opinion: “Fake News” Claims, Debunked

I think "climate change" needs to be jettisoned anyway. It's possible for people to claim to "believe in climate change", yet deny that humans have any role in it. Anthropogenic global warming is perhaps a better term, but a bit of a mouthful for the talking heads on cable news.

And "AGW non-mitigator" doesn't have the same ring as "climate change denier".

On “James Comey Testifies: Open Thread

Trump on President Clinton's meeting with AG Lynch:

“This is terrible and nobody can understand why nothing’s happened. You see a thing like this and, even in terms of judgment, how bad of judgment is it for him or for her to do this? I mean, who would do this?”

Let's dispel once and for all with the fiction that Donald Trump didn't know what he was doing, he knew exactly what he was doing.
