Saturday Morning Gaming: Returning to Gloomhaven
Back in 2021, I talked about Gloomhaven.
Well, about a month ago, I stumbled across my original review and had the youtube open while I did something else and I thought “you know… I never beat that…” and went back to it and HOLY COW. This game is awesome.
I restarted from the beginning and instead of banging my head against the first three dungeons the way I did back then, I glided through them. Seriously, they were *EASY*. These same dungeons that I had to play two or three times in my first playthrough became dungeons that I just waltzed through after a year of not even touching the game.
“Who was I that I needed to be level 7 on this dungeon?”, I thought to myself as I beat it with level 3 guys.
I’m still dealing with frustration in the dungeons… like, the best way to ensure that you find your 0-damage curse card is to use your burnable 7-damage special attack. But I’m enjoying the Jaws of the Lion DLC and characters and I’ve even unlocked the Elementalist (something I never did in my original playthrough) and finding myself stumbling across new strategies and synergies.
The game goes on sale often so don’t feel like you need to pay $35 bucks for it… but it’s one of those rare games that is worth full price if you do.
So… what are you playing?

I’m still dabbling in Diablo IV. Got my barbarian to level 49, then decided “I need to make a sorcerer,” so I did. I got him up to level 20+, though I did the campaign skip, so I’m doing Whispers and sidequests mostly.
I also got back to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. I had not touched the game in a while. I hit a wall with the Pink Rathian, and I could not beat it. Wow power was out, I drained the batteries on my Steam Deck and my Switch, so I decided to give it another try. I have a lot more experience at Monster Hunter games now. My first couple fights I lost, but I managed to get through it on the third try, opening up some more progress.
Also, your post the other day (sorry for you loss) got me checking out the local SPCA, and we will be getting a third cat soon.Report
Also still plodding through Diablo IV. My wife and I are playing together-she’s a necro and I’m a sorcerer. It’s much easier with the two of us. We’re finishing up Act II, and just hit level 30. My solo rogue is level 43 and on Act V. Once I finish the campaign with the rogue, I’ll do a necro when the seasonal stuff starts. Maybe I’ll start a druid before the seasonal stuff and skip the campaign.Report
