2022 Platform & Resolutions Committee
Resolutions
1. 2020 Election: We believe that the 2020 election violated Article 1 and 2 of the US Constitution, that various secretaries of state illegally circumvented their state legislatures in conducting their elections in multiple ways, including by allowing ballots to be received after November 3, 2020.We believe that substantial election fraud in key metropolitan areas significantly affected the results in five key states in favor of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.
We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States. We strongly urge all Republicans to work to ensure election integrity and to show up to vote in November of 2022, bring your friends and family, volunteer for your local Republicans, and overwhelm any possible fraud.
And there it is. The GOP has declared war on the US. Will any one notice?Report
There I was a few weeks ago defending you when someone said you’re not a legitimate citizen because I know you’re sensitive to accusations of treason.Report
Baseless accusations, actual guilt, it’s all the same innit?Report
So then what do you call an official statement by an arm of a national political party that the current president is acting, and republicans must vote to defeat fraud – which didn’t occur in any measurable way in the election these people are considering unconstitutional?Report
Sounds bad but CRT!!!!!! Must be liberals fault. At least it’s not a rapist abuser ex gov putting out commercials about hunting people who disagree with his politics.Report
Let the resentments fly!!!Report
This is the choice the American citizens have. One insurrectionist faction devoted to enforcing its minority view on the rest of us, versus a centrist party representing the majority.Report
Yeah but gas is over 5-6 dollars a gallon and everyone is really upset about inflation, continuing supply chain issues, and the possibility of a deep recession. /sarc tag.
I do think this is uncharted territory for midterms. On the one hand, a lot of things indicate that it could be a GOP wave this year beyond the decades-long thermostatic electorate effect which existed during saner times. However, a lot of GOP politicians could very well Aiken themsleves to defeat. The election is going to be decided based on whether people are angrier about inflation and supply-chain issues, and the new society emerging post-COVID (with ongoing debates re WFH and other issues) or are they more concerned about theocracy coming to their neighborhood.Report
“Uncharted territory” seems about right, or at least territory not seen in living memory.
About the closest I can think of would be the mob and lawless actions to overturn Reconstruction.Report
MISO, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator that manages the power grid for several states from Louisiana to Minnesota, has warned some of those that there may be rolling blackouts this summer due to insufficient electricity supply. You think people are mad about $5 per gallon gasoline? Wait until they start getting rolling blackouts during the 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm peak demand period for electricity.Report
The everything is breaking down election. Most of the states in MISO do not have many Democrats generally except Michigan, Illinois, and Minnesota.Report
Love to live in a country in which we get to choose between two parties: the party that can’t do anything to fix anything, and the party that can’t do anything to fix anything and are proto-fascists.Report
The Democrats are a bit stymied by being the not-Republican party. On the one hand this is a lot of people. On the other hand, it is a fractious coalition of groups and it is not clear how much interaction occurs between various groups. Yet each group assumes it is the true base. This is why Garcia and Wiley voters were surprised at Eric Adams eeking up a victory in the NYC Mayoral election.
That being said, if the U.S. were parliamentary, we would almost certainly see Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Manchin, and Sinema in the same coalition behind Prime Minister Joe Biden. There would just be some more spoils to go around.Report
Regardless of whether I buy this explanation, it still means the Democrats are the do-nothing party, and show no signs of becoming a do-something party, and not only will their do-nothingness have electoral consequences, but it will in fact inevitably result in the proto-fascism of the opposition party becoming more and more popular.Report
I reject the “do nothing” charge.
I live in California, where one party actually does fix things. The Democrats here actually do a good job of running the machinery of government.
All the hysterical charges people level at cities like San Francisco are the same or worse in Republican-run jurisdictions.Report
I also dispute your notion that Democrats are doing nothing. I don’t like Manchin but I don’t see how anyone further left replaces him in the Senate. State level Democratic parties are stepping forward to protect LBGT rights, abortion access, and working on gun control, and climate change. A lot of supply-side issues are beyond their power, authority, and control.
They are still a lot better than people who write fanfic about East Germany and don’t seem capable of understanding that we don’t have fully automated luxury space gay communism because we don’t have an infinite amount of Star Trek replicators that never break down and can make anything.Report
If you need to run on the other team being Na.zis because you simply can’t run on your own competence, then don’t expect to win.
If the claim is “this time we’re serious!”, well everyone has heard that dozens of times.Report
How about, “Expensive gas is better than no democracy”?Report
“No democracy” is a concept that lays the ground work for Team Blue to ignore elections.Report
Are you aware of who yells out “We’re a republic not a democracy”? Not liberals or D’s.Report
No democracy means whoever is in power can ignore elections.
So maybe people should reject the party that is trying to ignore elections and vote for the other one.Report
A majority that is not uniformly distributed geographically, and a historical political structure that says such distributions matter.Report
We never seem to use this metric in evaluating other countries.
It’s not like anyone says, “Well it’s true that the majority of Venezuelan people don’t support the government but based on parliamentary procedure in how districts are allocated, it’s all good.”Report
Hey, I’m always willing to discuss feasible plans for fixing the structure :^)Report
What I’m talking about is our punditry, where any mention of how the distribution of political power doesn’t reflect the desire of the citizenry is met with “But that’s how the game is played!”Report
Don’t expect good things if we let politicians change the rules on how the game is played. The odds of what you want happening actually happening aren’t good.Report
Excellent! First, we overthrow Maduro….Report
Cue people saying they can’t vote for the Dummycrats because they are the crap team because reasons. A lot of White Americans see the Republican Party as off their rockers but can’t bring themselves to vote for the Democratic Party because reasons.Report
Agreed. The rankling anger at our state’s Republican leaders is showing almost constantly in local media, but none of them will vote for a democrat. It would be funny if it wasn’t so damn tragic.Report
But Democrats want to allow abortion and ask that minorities including LBGT people be treated equally plus they want you to consider driving less. Not liking local politicians is an age old game but they keep on getting elected or replaced by people who are often substantially similar/worse over the things that make people angry. White southerners vote on social politics a lot and they are often perfect examples of be willing to suffer if the people they hate suffer more. No amount of writing in Jacobin or whereever will change this.
Meanwhile, Jacobin apparently likes penning love letters to East Germany because they are dumb.Report
Yeah I read that rag for a good laugh. And I’m well aware of white southern voting tendencies.Report
No one actually objects to “election integrity.” We’re in religion or mental illness territory to think it’s a problem.
Happy path for fixing this is we all declare that we’re for “election integrity” and we all move forward.
So… we’re on the happy path?Report
I’m not so sanguine. Making some post truth nonsense Official Dogma doesn’t bode well.Report
“Election integrity” means “not letting Those People vote”.Report
That’s certainly the Team Blue spin.
Or it might mean “prevent things that don’t happen from happening”.Report
Either way it’s a ginned up controversy.Report
They don’t care what Democrats declare – or even do. The January 6th Committee is uncovering all sorts of hard evidence that the Trump administration was actively seeking to violate federal election law, and the Texas GOP responds with this.
They aren’t mentally ill – though religious zealotry may be a useful allegory.Report
At the end of the day, the usual rules apply.
So various members of the GOP will end up being arrested, and Team Blue will claim all members of Team Red are equally guilty.Report
I’m sure there are many members of the Chinese Communist Party who are blameless for the crushing of human rights.Report
Not Cheney and Kinzinger, who are being (respectively) primaried and threatened for their good deeds, but everyone who goes along with this crap? Guilty as hell.Report
Meanwhile in Missouri, Eric Greitens arms himself with a shotgun in an advertisement and encourages RINO hunting.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/20/us/politics/in-ad-shotgun-toting-greitens-asks-voters-to-go-rino-hunting.htmlReport
This is basically encouraging the Night of the Long Knives.Report
Well because huddling in a Uhaul to riot at a Pride parade and busting up a Drag Queen Story hour didn’t work to out us back in our places.Report
We’re at the pint where simply reprinting verbatim a Republican campaign ad will get you banned from OT for TOC violations.Report
We’re at the pint? I guess it’s 5PM somewhere and the Texas GOP platform gives us plenty of reasons to drink.Report
Next he’ll be suggesting his supporters bring guns to polls.Report
What were seeing is familiar to people in 3rd World countries where the political party keeps a paramilitary wing that coordinates with it.
Like even 2 or 3 years ago LGBTQ issues weren’t a high profile target of the Proud Boys, but now they are, because now it is a target of the party.Report
I expect a fair amount of their leadership (5 of them are facing charges) will end up in prison from the capital riot. The total number of Proud Boys members is unknown. Reports estimate membership between several hundred up to 6,000.
They’re a problem but not beyond the reach of law enforcement.Report
They would like to be on the pardon list, if that is till in the works.Report
Trump pardoned none of these guys while he had the chance. He might give them a supporting Tweet, but that’s the limit.
All the risk and illegality of their thing is on them, Trump only shares the upside.Report
That’s classic Trump, not paying his debtsReport
Debts are what a court says you need to pay.Report
Which Trump has historically avoided paying by declaring bankruptcy. There’s a lesson in there somewhere.Report
They also endorse a state electoral college where each senate district will cast one vote for state offices. This effectively would mean that, in Texas, rural white voters would have three times the votes of urban voters.Report
Their goal is to install permanent minority rule but they will say they are the majority because land counts more than people and they represent the true American values.Report
They are the Legitimate Americans.Report
