Supreme Court Nazi Art & Railroad Retirement Board Decisions: Read Them for Yourself
The Supreme Court hands down decisions on “Nazi Art” lawsuits and the Railroad Retirement Board benefits determination ruling.
The case of FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY ET AL. v. PHILIPP ET AL. the Court unanimously ruled in favor of the German government on sovereign immunity grounds that lawsuits within the US Justice System regarding stolen property of Jews by the Nazis could not proceed.

UNITED STATES RAILROAD RETIREMENT BOARD in which the Court ruled 5-4 with Sotomayor writing and Roberts and Kavanaugh joining the liberals overturning the 5th Circuit ruling that denial of request to reopen benefits determination was not subject to judicial review.

Back of the envelope and quick internet search calcs indicate that Mr. Salinas’s total disability payments would have amounted to a million bucks on the high end if they had just paid him from the get go. And they are in fact just arguing over the differential between what they want to pay him and what he thinks he should get.
So, likely, the retirement board went all the way to the Supreme Court for about 10k a year – and are still going to have to go thru another court proceeding if they don’t just settle.Report
