BREAKING: 2020 Election Results are In…No, Seriously, For Reals This Time
Anti-climatic as it may be, the 2020 Election has, finally, been called, and Joe Biden has won. Really.
CNN PROJECTION: President-elect Joe Biden wins Georgia, flipping the traditionally red state, and Donald Trump wins North Carolina.
This brings the final electoral vote tally to 306 for Biden and 232 for Trump https://t.co/A6zhdqRxV6 #CNNElection pic.twitter.com/2VCXWD2UhH

The result is almost a direct flip from 2016, when President Trump tallied 304 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton’s 227.
It truly is a mirror to 2016. This time the Dems retained their traditionally blue states that Trump was absolutely certain he could flip and then narrowly flipped a number of traditionally red states (GA and AZ).
The popular vote remains a constant, of course. I don’t know what to think about Az… is this only a Trump revulsion defection or is that state following the path CO charted and is moving in a more blue direction?
And, for that matter, the closeness of Biden’s win in WI, PA and to a lesser degree MI is also disconcerting. Are these states permanently drifting red?
It’s hard to even hazard to guess because I honestly have no fishing clue what form the red side will even take in the next couple cycles.Report
My take on AZ is that climate change is hitting them hard, threatening their ability to even live in Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun. This is moving votes.
Another possibility is in-migration from CA, since AZ is considerably cheaper to live in.Report
That’s plausible, but I think we’ll need to see some more elections with Trump removed as a factor to get a better vibe on the state.Report
Both US Senators from AZ are Democrats now. Five of nine members of the US House are Democrats. Maricopa County’s board of supervisors (or whatever they call it) is now majority Democrats. The Republican majorities in the state legislature are steadily shrinking.
Following the same path as New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. Ballot initiatives suggest that Utah has started down the path, but will take longer.Report
Man from your lips to God(ess?)’s ear!Report
There’s still the electoral college option! We can swap out Biden for Warren if we play our cards right.Report
Well, now that that’s done, I guess we can all move on to other things. Like the pandemic, for instance.Report
