Those last nine words interest me.

Back in mid-October, a few commenters here noted that some American Jews were berating their Leftist friends for not standing with Israel after the Hamas attack. I believe part of the reason for the silence was that Leftist activists were well aware what would happen when Israel inevitably “[took] military actions in Gaza”.

That nine-word fig leaf covers nothing.Report

          1. Maybe it’s that they expected that Israel would respond at a ‘6’ but they could argue that Israel should have only responded at a ‘4’ and since we’re past ‘5’ we should have a ceasefire and it’s unfair that we don’t but, instead, Israel responded at an ‘8’. And *NOBODY* was prepared for an ‘8’.Report

          2. I didn’t understand what your initial response had to do with my initial comment (“Hamas” and “Leftist activists” are different groups), so I followed your lead in going off on a tangent.

            [shrug] It’s a funny old world.Report

            1. Oh, I can explain that.

Leftist activists were well aware what would happen when Israel inevitably “[took] military actions in Gaza”.

              I agree with this.

They were. I was too. I think that most people were.

              Hamas, apparently, was not.Report

              1. I’m pretty sure a case can be made that Hamas, at least the leadership ensconced in Qatar, is generally happy with the Israeli response and hoped for the response it is getting.Report
