On “The Two Extremes of the Gun Debate

I feel all warm and fuzzy now :)

On “Ideology is the Enemy: Prelude

Well, now depending upon you're definition of "conservative"...

"Over the past four years, we have seen “conservatives” push for an abandonment of our entire monetary system.." The only monetary system in the beginning of the country was gold, so, it could be argued that advocating the gold standard IS a conservative position.

"eliminating our public school system". Same point. Twernt no public skools when that thar constitution was created. (or not many).

"dismantling the current system of collective bargaining". If you're talking about public unions, same point. Fundamentally, a having elected politicians negotiate with public unions is the equivilent of having the manager of your company negotiate with your other employess on how to spend your money.

"disposing of social safety nets that have been with us for generations" Again, twernt no safety net in the 1800s.

"Declaring preemptive wars", Dead on here.

"allowing states to declare parts of federal law and the Constitution null and void at their own whim." Actually, yes, all that "reserved for the states" parts of the constituion everyone ignores now....

On “The Two Extremes of the Gun Debate

People also voted in a survey to ban pressure cookers in light of the Boston bombings.

When will we American be safe from the evils of pressure cookers??!!

"

Well given that there was an actual Assault Weapon Ban which eventually expired, and there was, and still is, talk about renewing it, buying something that has a chance of being made illegal again isn't an unwise decision.

"

It's not the age of the child, it's the maturity of the child and the level of adult supervision. Why is this a hard concept?

On “Why Bloggers (and Reporters!) Should be Statistically Literate.

Well reporters are notorious for reporting on subjects, areas, fields, etc. in which they have no education or experience, but that never stopped them. Why would this be any different? Hell, often times they don't even get the FACTS correct.

On “Ukip, the British Tea Party that’s Reshaping British Politics

There might be less of Ukip if the folks of Europe hadn't got such a raw deal on the EU. Really, it's a trading block, not a country, which is what the elites want. The common man sees too much loss of soverignity.

On “The Two Extremes of the Gun Debate

Hopefully He's buying AR-15s so when another "assault weapon" ban hits, he can PROFIT by selling a few under the table to folks who missed out when they were legal.

Smart man.

"

DAMN, I guess I'll have to wait for the UN Black Helicopters and the one world gov't army invading the US then.

or the Chicoms

or the ruskies

Won't someone please think of the childrens!!

"

Well let's see. I was operating the steering wheel on country roads, sitting on my Dad's lap, when I was around 10. I was driving on a farmer's property when I was 12--moving the car to the deer carcass we'd hauled down the mountain.

I was drinking a small bit of wine with dinner at family celebrations and an occasional sip of beer at family picnics around 14-16.

I started tagging along with my Dad deer hunting and bird hunting when I was 10 ish and had completed the hunter safety course about the same time. I had a cut down bolt action shotgun to fit my smaller frame from that age and I new about safe handling of firearms before I was 10.

Basic firearm safety is NOT an affront to most people's sensibilites--least the folks I used to hang out with. Everyone has usually been very conscious of it. It's the rule vs the exception. However, I've seen the occasional safety violation and I stepped up and interceeded so no one was endangered--and actually improved folks fun. I've never been to a shooting event where alcohol was present unless the firearms had been locked up PRIOR to the boozes comming out.

So, yah, guns haven't been any different to me. I started driving, drinking, and shooting from an early age and learned how to do all of them responsibly. Of course, I don't suffer fools in the car, in the bar, or on the range, but maybe that's just me.....

On “DC Comics Gets Political with “The Movement”

The gov't doesn't SERVE the community. If these guys want to be different, they need to serve.

On “The Right to Confront

The trail is essentially a public event. The accuser is there to accuse someone of a crime in front of those who will pass judgement. The defense is entitled to challenge those accusations, and the jury is there to hear and see the reactions of the accuser and the defendant. Both visual and audio clues give input to the jury to help them determine the veracity of the accuser.

If this is not something the accuser can do given the restrictions of their religion, the accuser has the option of not testifying.

On “DC Comics Gets Political with “The Movement”

"The Occupy movement doesn’t think government is inherently evil, they just want the government to work for everyone. Not just the 1% The tea party movement and conservatives think government is inherently evil which is why they say they want to shrink government to the size of a bathtub, or whatever it is that they say. At least that’s what they say until they step into power and increase the size and role of government."

The reasons why both sides are wrong is that gov't doesn't work for anyone but itself. And no one who gains power wants to give it up, which is one of the reasons gov't IS evil, since all it's actions are backed by, at a minimum, the threat of violence against those who do not submit.

The only way these guys can truly become legit is to support their community by serving them and complying with the residents wishes.

On “The 65.2 MPG VW [Updated]

Off topic, but semi relevant. I recently had my manual transmission car in the shop for some clutch work. The Service Tech said that there are a lot of current techs aren't just familiar with manuals anymore--much less demand I guess. I guess one day, no one will know how to service those cars..

On “Judging FIRST

Reading this post made me long for the old tv show, name not remembered, where remote control robots would fight in an arena. Battle Bots maybe? The current "robot games" are just bogus.

On “What’s the Matter with Susie?

Sadly, I don't remember much about it other than it was a game demonstrating supply and demand.

On “Dr. Frankenstein Crafts a New Party

James,

I kinda expected it to be somewhere along the standard BS Left - Right spectrum but frankly, it's just a wee bit too statist for me. Figured it be more "out there".

"ideologically coherent as actual political parties are." Gave me a chuckle. lol

On “What’s the Matter with Susie?

I remember the "apple" game in high school. It was my first introduction to economics and, given how hard other's had with the game on what were clearly simple concepts, I realized we were boned....

On “Dr. Frankenstein Crafts a New Party

I stopped at "heart" and glaced through the rest.

Sure...take even more of MY money to fund your subsidies. Is this what the Independent label has become? Has it moved that far to the statist side?

Shesh

On “What’s the Matter with Susie?

You should give all the kids some candy and then hold a vote on whether or not Susie should have to give her candy to whoever the "democratic group" things should have it.

Be a good primer on taxes, social welfare, and many other kinds of applications.

On “What Joe Paterno and Kermit Gosnell Have In Common

The part of the story that hasn't been covered, in my opinion, is how the state's investigators responsible for policing this guy DID NOTHING FOR YEARS. After the prosecution goes after this guy, they should look into the state employees that failed to do their job.

"I could go into a long diatribe about how liberals AND CONSERVATIES don’t pay attention to their own stink in their backyards while they are attacking conservatives for their garbage. "
--fixed that for ya. Upper case for emphasis

On “Teach Her Good

Sure that's a factor. But from the description this kid was a motivated passionate person voicing her concerns. She'd already contacted the ACLU AND had spoken to the local media. She's got the stones for that but buckles under a confrontation?

She also could have said "I'm going to Wellesly, you figure out who the'll support."

"

If Campbell had the balls to to speak up and contact the ACLU why didn't she have the balls to respond to Principal George Aulenbacher's question with a response like this: "How would you like it if FIRE and the ACLU and I all sue your ass?"
