The Maroon Trap
Ed Note:
In 1913, the Chicago Maroons went 7-0 and won the Western Conference (now known as the Big Ten). They beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers 13-7 with 21,000 in attendance (a large crowd at the time). The Gophers went 5-2 with their only only other loss to Nebraska, where Clare Briggs went to school for two years. Nebraska went 8-0 and won the MVIAA (the successor of the Big 8, which was the predecessor of the Big 12).
