Although the shooter was never charged with it due to his successful insanity defense on the attempted murder charge, James Brady’s death was declared a homicide in 2014, over 30 years after he was shot. I’m not sure of the details of the reasoning behind that, but presumably the coroner determined that his death was related to the shooting somehow. It may have been indirect, e.g. shooting => paralysis => bedsores => infection, like Christopher Reeve.

    If we’re talking only about successful convictions, I’m not sure which case had the longest delay between attack and death.Report
